  By Bhagemede  In a memo sent out on Tuesday, 13th of October, 2026 by the Executive Council, stakeholders of the Faculty were informed of a meeting scheduled for Friday, 16th of October, 2026 by 3pm at the Faculty's Small Lecture Theater (SLT).  The meeting is being called to deliberate on matters concerning the Faculty; Students' Union Election and Endorsement in particular and Any Other Business (AOB).  The presence of all FATSSSA Executives, Organ Heads, Principal Officers of the House, Departmental Presidents and their Executives, Departmental Speakers, Class Representatives, and Erstwhile Leaders of the Faculty who are present in school have been beckoned on to discuss and deliberate FATSSSA’s stance in the forthcoming Students' Union Election.

In a memo sent out on Friday, 9th of October, 2026, The Independent FATSSSA Electoral Commission acknowledged the petitions sent out by a candidate and members of FATSSSA regarding controversial issues surrounding the recently concluded FATSSSA elections .    The Commission recognized the importance of these concerns and assured members of the Association that they would be given proper considerations. The memo stated that IFEC initiated an investigation following reports of the removal and destruction of campaign materials where the affected candidate was asked to provide evidence that could assist in identifying the culprit but no substantial evidence was provided.  The Commission also established that the bulk SMS messages received by some Fatsssaites on election day were due to MTN’s bulk SMS policy which it had confirmed with MTN service providers, and that the act was therefore not deliberate.   By Joseph Etsevi  The Nigerian Association of Psychology Students (NAPS), University of Ibadan, has challenged calls for the revocation of the Social Director-Elect’s Mandate, arguing that the Independent FATSSSA Electoral Committee (IFEC) had previously considered the allegations against the candidate and imposed a ₦20,000 fine. In an official statement addressed to the Speaker of the FATSSSA House of Representatives through the Clerk, the Association outlined its position on the allegations of violating campaign regulations and breaching data privacy during the recently concluded FATSSSA elections. The statement comes amid concerns raised by the NSASA House of Representatives and the Department of Political Science regarding the circumstances surrounding the candidate’s electoral conduct and subsequent calls for the withdrawal of her mandate. By Joseph Etsevi  The controversy surrounding the FATSSSA Social Director election at the University of Ibadan has intensified as the National Association of Political Science Students (NAPSS), UI Chapter, demands accountability from the Independent Faculty Electoral Commission (IFEC), while the Department of Sociology (NSASA) rejects the election result in its current form. In its statement titled “Call for Accountability on the IFEC Fine and the Safety of Member Data,” NAPSS questioned the justification for the ₦20,000 fine reportedly imposed despite finding that the candidate was not guilty. The Association demanded that IFEC explain the basis for the sanction or withdraw it. NAPSS also expressed concern over reports that financially committed FATSSSAITES received campaign-related messages, raising questions about how their contact details were obtained and used.   Bhagemede The election scheduled for Thursday, 8th of October 2026, commenced at 9:00a.m. The election was hybrid (both online and onsite at the Pako Lounge in the Faculty), IFEC officials urged Financial members of the Faculty to check their mails in order to get the link and password to participate in the voting process.  As at 10:33a.m, the votes had tallyed up to 320, financial members of the Association  who had issues with participating in the voting process were advised to be at the Faculty’s Pako Lounge where the help desk was situated with the availability of Seven IFEC officials who were to provide aid for such situations.  At 12:07p.m, 427 votes had been cast.  Voters who could not gain access to the Election poll came to the Pako Lounge to be aided to participate in the voting process.  A voter’s complaint was that she didn't get any mail concerning the Election. Following the earlier discovery of the Momentum Agenda broadcast message which was sent to some Fatsssaites, The Independent FATSSSA Electoral Commission (IFEC) embarked on an investigation after receiving several complaints from the general populace of the Association.  The Electoral Commission, had sent out a memo earlier on for students who received the text to send screenshots. It was later discovered that it was a broadcast message and it was majorly MTN subscribers who had received the text, the Commission established that the delivery of the texts was delayed due to network and bulk messages. IFEC also received evidence that the messages were sent the previous night (prior to the Election Day) and its delivery to recipients on the Election day was not a deliberate act.   Peace Nkenta The Executive Council in a memo circulated to the general populace of Fatsssa on Sunday, September 20, 2026 informed the Association of the approved lecture free hours on some days of the Fatsssa Week. The approved periods include;  Monday, September 21, 2026: 10:00a.m to 2:00p.m (Fatsssa Conference) Wednesday, September 23, 2026: 12:00p.m to 3:00p.m (Menstrual Health Conference) Thursday, September 24, 2026: 10:00a.m to 2:00p.m (Fatsssa Creatives Connect) As stated in the memo, the reason for the approved lecture periods is to enable the attendance and participation of fatsssaites in these respective events.  Fatsssaites were therefore encouraged to take advantage of these periods, making plans to be in attendance for the programmes as it would be fundamental in ensuring that Fatsssa Week is a success. 

  Bhagemede The FHR in a memo circulated to the general populace of the Association on Thursday, September 17, 2026 notified fatsssaites on the removal of three honourable members from their honorary positions due to violations of the Constitution as stated in Article 17 Section II. It states that “Members of the FHR shall not be absent from any of its meetings irrespective of their posts. Any member who absents himself for the FHR meeting for 3 consecutive times with or without excuse shall be deemed to have forfeited his seat, except otherwise decided by the House in a special case.”  Honorable members who were removed include;  Hon. By: Adebanjo Zainab Adejoke The Independent FATSSSA Electoral Commission (IFEC) has issued a stern warning to all aspirants against engaging in any form of vote buying.  In a statement, IFEC urged all aspirants who are already involved in the act to desist immediately or risk facing disciplinary consequences, including disqualification from upcoming elections. The Commission reiterated its commitment to ensuring a credible and transparent electoral process and called on all aspirants to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations governing the elections. IFEC also appreciated the aspirants for their cooperation and urged them to continue to uphold the integrity of electoral processes. 

Bhagemede The second leg of the Inter-Faculty Debate between the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of The Social Sciences commenced at 8:20 p.m., with both faculties debating the topic: “Western Literature About Africa: A True Reflection of Africa’s Identity?” The speakers representing the Faculty of The Social Sciences argued against the motion, while the Faculty of Education argued in support. Throughout the debate, speakers from both faculties presented various arguments and narratives to buttress their respective positions on the topic. Both sides demonstrated their understanding of the subject matter while highlighting different perspectives on the representation of Africa in Western literature. At the end of the round, the Faculty of The Social Sciences recorded a total of 73.25 points, while the Faculty of Education scored 76.6 points emerging victorious and advancing to the next level of the Inter-Faculty Debate rounds. Bhagemede  The speakers who represented FATSSSA at the 12th Reckoning: JAW WAR took the stage at exactly 9:31pm and argued for the topic: Should employers consider applicants social media history in hiring decisions? Ayodele Oyinkansola polularly known as Emunah in The Social Sciences highlighted her points as the first speaker. Her speech included examples on three stakeholders that determine why employers use social media in hiring decisions. She advised the audience to post about this project saying, “We are not just posting but building opportunities”.  The first speaker of the Faculty of Dentistry tried to belittle The Social Sciences by saying the answer to the question lies in our lecture halls and yet we've missed it.   Bhagemede The Independent FATSSSA Electoral Commission (IFEC)’26 on Tuesday, 1st of September 2026 sent out a special release informing members of Association on the commencement of sales of forms for the Faculty election. The sales of forms is expected to span from September 1 till September 14, the Presidential and Vice Presidential Forms were set at Five Thousand Naira, Other Executive Positions at Four Thousand Naira and FHR positions at Three Thousand Naira. Aspirants were advised to purchase forms before the deadline.   By Joseph Etsevi  The Independent FATSSSA Electoral Commission (IFEC) on Monday, August 31, 2026, has officially notified the Association on the lift of ban on electoral activities, opening the way for aspirants to begin public campaigns ahead of the 2026 FATSSSA elections. The lifting of the ban was initially deliberated on and allowed to go through during the FHR's Fifth Legislative Sitting on Friday, August 28, 2026, where aspirants seeking elective positions can now take their campaigns to the public, engage voters and canvass for support ahead of the polls. However, the electoral commission has warned against indiscriminate placement of campaign flyers and materials, particularly on walls and notice boards around the Faculty building. According to IFEC statement, aspirants are “restricted from posting campaign flyers on walls and notice boards without proper authorization.”  This warning comes as campaign activities are expected to intensify across the Faculty....

  Faculty of The Social Sciences emerged victorious over the Faculty of Science in a bilateral debate held on August 14 at the Faculty Lecture Theatre (FLT), Faculty of Science, University of Ibadan. The debate, organised by the Faculty of Science Literary and Debating Society, featured the motion: “Has Imported Theories Erased the Relevance of Indigenous Knowledge in Nigerian Scholarship?” Representing Faculty of The Social Sciences, Legbo Comfort Amina and Oriolowo Goodluck Abolade argued against the motion, defending the continued relevance of indigenous knowledge in Nigerian scholarship. The Faculty of The Social Sciences secured 62 points, edging out the Faculty of Science, in a closely contested intellectual battle. The victory highlights the faculty’s strong performance in excellent critical-thinking skills and public speaking.

  By Adebanjo Zainab The Dean, Faculty of The Social Sciences, has announced that all lectures and other scheduled academic activities in the Faculty will be suspended between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.  This announcement was contained in a memo issued and addressed to the general populace of Fatsssa. According to the notice, the suspension is to enable students and members of the Faculty participate fully in a Faculty Lecture titled “Quantum Redirections and ‘the Field’ in Global Social Science,” which will be delivered by Professor Oka Obono. The Dean further encouraged students to take advantage of the opportunity to attend the lecture and participate actively in the intellectual engagement.

  By Joseph Etsevi The Executive Council through the office of the Assistant General Secretary released a memo to general public of the Association on Friday, 7th of August 2026, updating them on the use and maintenance of the newly renovated faculty toilet facilities. According to the statement released, the renovation was carried out by the Faculty Management under the leadership of the immediate past Dean, Professor B. O. Ehigie, in response to long-standing concerns over the poor condition of the faculty’s toilet facilities and the challenge of inadequate water supply.  It was  explained that the intervention stemmed from an earlier courtesy visit by the Executive Council to the erstwhile Dean, during which several student welfare issues were tabled, prominent among the concerns were the deteriorating state of the toilets and the need for a sustainable water supply, both of which have now been addressed through the renovation project.   Peace Nkenta The meeting which began some minutes after 5p.m at the Faculty's SLT was presided by the President of the Association, Peter Adegoke. At the commencement of the meeting, he expressed his gratitude to stakeholders of the Association for making themselves available and immediately proceeded to the agenda of the meeting.  The discuss featured deliberations on the events proposed to be held in the Faculty this semester which are; the Steeze on Shorts (SOS), Dinner/Pageantry, Cultural Night, Fatsssa week and others.  Stakeholders highlighted the need for proper planning amongst the bodies responsible for coordinating these events in order to ensure success and prevent unfortunate situations. At the end of the meeting, the Executive Council assured stakeholders that another meeting would be called at a later date to discuss on the progress made on the matters deliberated on.
