For some time, students had complained about the poor state of the restrooms, particularly the persistent unpleasant odour caused by an inadequate water supply for flushing. The issue had become a recurring concern, with many students calling on the faculty management to improve the sanitary conditions. According to the Faculty's Public Relations Officer (PRO), the renovation was carried out in response to these concerns.   By Faith Ajewole The Students’ Union has launched a review into the Loan Scheme following a surge of reports regarding payment discrepancies. A number of student beneficiaries have encountered significant obstacles when attempting to settle their school fees through the scheme’s funded wallets. The primary concerns revolve around technical errors within the payment system, most experienced double deductions for Utility and Technology fees. In several instances, students reported that these erroneous charges left their wallet balances insufficient to cover their remaining bundle fees, effectively stalling their registration process.  To resolve these anomalies, the Union is currently compiling verified records of all affected individuals.   Peace Nkenta The student community of the Faculty of The Social Sciences (FATSSSA) on Friday, March 27, 2026 received an internal memorandum on the notice of a lecture free-day on Monday, March 30, 2026, following the passing of the late Professor Olugboyega Obafemi Omololu of the department of Sociology whose impact on staff and students and remarkable contributions to the Faculty remain indelible.  As stated in the memo, members of the Faculty are enjoined to observe the day in reflection and respect for the memory of the departed.

  Peace Nkenta The University of Ibadan is set to begin its physical admission clearance exercise for all new students offered provisional admission in the 2025/26 session. This exercise is slated to run from Monday, March 23 to Friday, March 27, 2026.  New students of whom this exercise apply to are to come along with the following documents (both original and photocopies), they include; Jamb Result Slip, Form B003 duly filled, Birth Certificate, Two Passport Photographs, amongst others.  The University Management stated in the notice, the importance of the physical clearance exercise and has urged candidates to be present at their designated venues on the days scheduled for them, highlighting that only cleared students would receive letters of certificate of admission.  New students are to check the UI website for their scheduled days for the physical admission clearance.

  News By Faith Ajewole The University of Ibadan has announced the closure of all undergraduate Halls of Residence for the 2024/2025 academic session, directing students to vacate their hostels on or before 4PM on Monday, February 16, 2026. According to an internal memorandum issued by the Student Affairs Division and signed by the Dean of Students, Mr. Demola Lewis, the session will formally end with a Senate meeting scheduled for February 16, 2026. In line with university regulations, undergraduate hostels will shut down the same day, while fumigation of the halls will commence on February 17.“Consequently, all residents should vacate the undergraduate Halls of Residence with their belongings not later than 4:00 p.m. on Monday 16 February 2026,” the memo stated. The news was announced via Professor Aiyede’s LinkedIn account, where, in a post made on Thursday, February 5, 2026, he wrote: “I am happy to announce my assumption of a new role as the Chair of the Editorial Board of Nigerian Tribune Newspaper, Nigeria’s longest surviving privately owned newspaper.” Professor Aiyede has been a member of the Editorial Board of the Nigerian Tribune since 2008 and is a regular contributor to public discourse in the Nigerian media. By Faith Ajewole The University of ibadan Student' Union  on Sunday, February 1, 2026, held a memorial candlelight procession in honour of a student activist, Kunle Adepeju, who lost his life during a student protest in 1971. The event, announced earlier through an official circular dated January 31, 2026, was organised to commemorate Adepeju’s sacrifice and reflect on its historical significance in the struggle for student rights within the institution. Kunle Adepeju, after whom the student union building is named, reportedly died during a police crackdown while students were protesting against unfavourable conditions at the time. His death has since become a symbol of resistance and courage in the history of student activism at the University of Ibadan.
