The University of Ibadan has announced the closure of all undergraduate Halls of Residence for the 2024/2025 academic session, directing students to vacate their hostels on or before 4PM on Monday, February 16, 2026.

According to an internal memorandum issued by the Student Affairs Division and signed by the Dean of Students, Mr. Demola Lewis, the session will formally end with a Senate meeting scheduled for February 16, 2026. In line with university regulations, undergraduate hostels will shut down the same day, while fumigation of the halls will commence on February 17.“Consequently, all residents should vacate the undergraduate Halls of Residence with their belongings not later than 4:00 p.m. on Monday 16 February 2026,” the memo stated.

However, the university has made provisions for students engaged in continuing academic programmes such as Industrial Training, Teaching Practice, and other practical training exercises. Kenneth Mellanby Hall and Queen Elizabeth II Hall have been designated to provide temporary accommodation for eligible undergraduates.

Students seeking temporary stay must first obtain an Authority-to-Pay from the Lodgings Unit at the Student Affairs Division. They are required to pay a fee of ₦300 per day into a designated account at the UI Microfinance Bank, covering a 16-day period from February 17 to March 4, 2026.After payment, affected students are to convert their bank tellers to official receipts at the Treasury Unit of the Bursary before presenting them at the Lodgings Unit to secure accommodation.

The memo also directed wardens of postgraduate halls to make provisional arrangements for residents whose academic programmes overlap sessions, particularly doctoral candidates and students enrolled in three-semester programmes, during the fumigation period.
