Na Academic comeback I wan do. Olodo must win .”‎ ‎But in reality, students often say the opposite of what they do.‎ ‎At the beginning of the semester, there is always bursting energy and eagerness to attend lectures, do assignments, and read every day. But as time goes on, we become reluctant to do these things, and then we begin to feel our energy draining. ‎“I don't think I will be attending today's lecture. Please, snap your note for me .” ‎“I don't understand that lecturer's class. Abeg, you will teach me later .” ‎And then procrastination begins. “Later” becomes the following day; the following day beco...

AM I MY OWN ENEMY?

Image
By Bhagemede My alarm rings and suddenly I get off the bed… well not because of the alarm but because I heard a voice calling out to me saying:   “Get off me!” I was stunned, the room was quiet as usual alongside the clashing of buckets in other rooms but I was sure of what I heard. I jerked up; the voice spoke again   “Finally, you get off uhh… it’s about time” My bed spoke, the whole scenery was… hysterical. The alarm continued to ring. “You can speak?” I asked. “Yes, yes I can”.   You’re quite cocky for a bed - I mumbled. “Why don’t you get off at the sound of the alarm, you set it for a reason… right?” It asked. I was still in awe. I can’t believe I’m actually talking to my bed… that’s not intentional- I answered. It started again “Each day, it’s ‘just five more minutes’ which turns to ten minutes then hours” it continued “Let’s not even talk about the previous nights – you are to sleep early but rather choose to be on your phone till God ...

The Room That Told Me The Semester Has Started

Image
Credit: Ai generated Ageh Success I had convinced myself there was no rush. My department probably hasn't started classes," I told myself as I rolled over on my bed for what felt like the hundredth time that holiday. One more day at home would not hurt. One more meal cooked by my mum would not hurt either. Besides, if lectures had started already... na them sabi. So, I took my time. When I finally arrived at Queen's Hostel, bag in one hand and my Pepsi that I bought on my way in the other, I expected to meet a half empty room. After all, it was still early in the semester... or so I thought. The room had other plans. One bed was neatly arranged but empty. Another had books on it, with notes scattered across the table. Someone had obviously been living the "school life" long before I decided ...

ATIKU FIRES BACK AT PRESIDENCY, INVOKES CHINA OVER TINUBU'S U.S. FORFEITURE CASE

Image
By Joseph Etsevi Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has challenged the Presidency to apply the same standards it invoked in comparing Nigeria's anti-corruption efforts with China's to issues surrounding President Bola Tinubu's past forfeiture case in the United States. Reacting to comments from the Presidency, Atiku argued that rather than presenting the comparison with China as a political advantage, the government should consider how Chinese authorities would respond to the circumstances surrounding the $460,000 forfeited to the United States Government in a civil forfeiture case linked to allegations of narcotics trafficking and money laundering. According to Atiku, China's reputation for uncompromising enforcement of drug-related offences suggests that such a forfeiture would be regarded not as the conclusion of a matter, but as the beginning of a thorough criminal investigation. Expanding his criticism beyond the forfeiture issue, the former Vice Pre...
