OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON PETITIONS ARISING FROM THE RECENTLY CONCLUDED FATSSSA ELECTIONS - IFEC

In a memo sent out on Friday, 9th of October, 2026, The Independent FATSSSA Electoral Commission acknowledged the petitions sent out by a candidate and members of FATSSSA regarding controversial issues surrounding the recently concluded FATSSSA elections . The Commission recognized the importance of these concerns and assured members of the Association that they would be given proper considerations. The memo stated that IFEC initiated an investigation following reports of the removal and destruction of campaign materials where the affected candidate was asked to provide evidence that could assist in identifying the culprit but no substantial evidence was provided. The Commission also established that the bulk SMS messages received by some Fatsssaites on election day were due to MTN’s bulk SMS policy which it had confirmed with MTN service providers, and that the act was therefore not deliberate.
