Renowned FATSSSA, UI Professor Remi Aiyede Appointed Chair of Nigerian Tribune Editorial Board

Peace Nkenta   Emmanuel Remi Aiyede, a Professor in the Department of Political Science, has been appointed as the Chair of the Editorial Board of the Nigerian Tribune newspaper. The news was announced via Professor Aiyede’s LinkedIn account, where, in a post made on Thursday, February 5, 2026, he wrote: “I am happy to announce my assumption of a new role as the Chair of the Editorial Board of Nigerian Tribune Newspaper, Nigeria’s longest surviving privately owned newspaper.” Professor Aiyede has been a member of the Editorial Board of the Nigerian Tribune since 2008 and is a regular contributor to public discourse in the Nigerian media. He formerly taught at the University of Lagos before joining the University of Ibadan in 2005, where he has served in various academic and administrative capacities. UI Students’ Union Holds Memorial Candlelight Procession for Student Activist, Kunle Adepeju

By Faith Ajewole The University of ibadan Student' Union  on Sunday, February 1, 2026, held a memorial candlelight procession in honour of a student activist, Kunle Adepeju, who lost his life during a student protest in 1971. The event, announced earlier through an official circular dated January 31, 2026, was organised to commemorate Adepeju’s sacrifice and reflect on its historical significance in the struggle for student rights within the institution. Kunle Adepeju, after whom the student union building is named, reportedly died during a police crackdown while students were protesting against unfavourable conditions at the time. His death has since become a symbol of resistance and courage in the history of student activism at the University of Ibadan.
