REINCARNATION: THE DAUGHTER OF LIFE

Image
By OduKoya Grace Omolola I gravitated in space, the sacred area between earthly and celestial worlds. I stretched towards the door of life but the attempt futile. I shut my eyes in agony, trying to remember what had happened. Memories of war, family, love, hope, despair and death flashed before my eyes. A vacuum appeared from nowhere and iye, the goddess of life strutted to me, her waist-length curls weaved into a complex didi, adorned with the ileke iyun that also beautified her ears, neck, waist, wrists and ankles. She was dressed in buba and iro made of the most exquisite lace material. She reached out to me and everything seemed to stop at that split second. She smiled sadly, ‘My child, you have suffered enough. The divinities have decided to give you a second chance to rewrite your destiny. You have to stop being so hesitant and do what’s best for your people.’ She waved at me.   I woke up, startled and gasping for breath. I looked around the small carriage that ...

MY GEO DIARY (Part 1)

Image
By Faceless Zainab The day I got admission to study geography has to be one of the saddest days of my life. I had missed the cut-off mark of the course I wanted to study. It was hard to tell my dad I was offered admission to study geography because I knew he would be disappointed. I had a serious mental breakdown when the list of cut off marks was released. It was hard for me to accept I was going to study geography. Having to explain to people how I'm studying geography despite initially being an arts student didn't make it any easier. The confused expression everyone had on their faces with multiple questions written all over them gripped my heart. Anyone would think I received a death sentence. Resumption came and what I perceived to be a nightmare turned into reality. I felt lost. I couldn't bring myself to be positive. For me, there was no bright side to the situation and no light cos the tunnel seemed to have no end. I was surprised to find that quite a number of ...
