THEY DON’T KNOW WHAIZ GOING ON. By Osarennoma Ogbeide

Image
Attention freshers! Waiting in the lecture hall an hour before the class starts, taking note of every breath and/or cough of the lecturer and going the extra mile to please them will only last a while. This particular manifestation of ignorance I can forgive as it is your first year here. However, you shall not persist in it any longer. I understand your enthusiasm and eagerness to begin this new journey, but don’t let that steer you in the wrong paths and displace your focus. The most important thing is settling in well and acclimatizing with the new environment, standing strong at the end of it all. So don’t get it twisted; get to your classes on time, take attendance seriously and make necessary preparations for tests and exams but don’t kill yourself in the process. The journey is just beginning, so save your energy for when you’ll need it most. Attention stallites’! This is not new to you but perhaps you need some reminder; it is not easy sha. Meeting up to deadlines, group...

Recent Ban on commercial motorcycles in the University of Ibadan: Reactions and opinions of students

Image
The management of University of Ibadan officially banned commercial Motorcycle operations on campus since June 30, 2019 and replaced it with tricycle. This in turn triggered reactions from students, residents and workers. FATSSSA Press sought the opinions of students and they have these to say: Anonymous views; "I think one of the reasons why motorcycles were banned was not necessarily because of the cases of theft and accidents as purported by the management; it was an attempt by the school authority to encourage walking among students, which will, in turn, serve as a good form of exercise. The management knows better, it's now left for the students to make the best out of this unsolicited change. To me, it is a welcome development as some students are practically lazy to walk just a little distance. In a saner clime, I don't see an atom of sense in what the management did. So when you look beyond the amusement, you'll see the subtle meanings I embellished in it...

CROCHET TOP ALERT!!

Image
Weather  is so unstable these days. It rains in the morning; it gets hot in the afternoons and the night comes with the cold. And it makes it difficult to pick a suitable outfit that will adapt to all the weather changes. In times like these, a fashionista would recommend people to pick lighter but trendier outfits. In this case, crochet is a wise and fine option. Crochet is an outfit that is starting to gain popularity to students. It is now worn for parties, evening classes and to chill out with the gang. Here are ways to blend that crochet top and look good Blend it With Denim Look casual by blending your crochet with braces of denim pants/shorts. To add, keep your outfit more casual, put on sleek and darker denim. In fact, jeans can go well with any flair or color of crochet top. Put on a loose, relaxed crochet top paired with a distressed pair of jeans that has holes and blubbing- the best summer outfit. If you want to look less casual, put on a more structured cr...

Image
By Kayode Oyeniran With the draws done already, one of the exciting and intriguing football competitions in the University of Ibadan—SEAL is set to start on the 15th of July. This session’s edition marks the third successive edition hosted by these students. While deliberating on some of the modalities to be used in the game before the draws were done, it was agreed by various sports secretaries/directors and their representatives across 17 departments that Distance Learning and Maters students will not be allowed to participate in the competition.  It was also agreed that only 17 players and a coach will be registered and 30 minutes will be allocated for each half of every match...

Ban on Commercial Motorcycles: Let Us consider a Policy Re-assessment

Image
It is no longer news that last week, students, staff and other commuters alike were greeted with the ordeal experience of the ban placed on commercial motorcycles popularly referred to as okada on campus. A number of the commuters have in the last one week resorted to trekking as the alternative made available—the tricycles popularly referred to as maruwa cannot cater for the huge number of commuters at the park and it has been argued by many how time wasting and cost ineffective it is to the end that many commuters have had to wait for other commuters going towards their destination safe they can afford to pay a #100 to #120 to save their time. Many (particularly students) took to their various social media handles to register their displeasure and to speak against what many of them consider as an undemocratic policy by the management of the University. In their argument on the ban on commercial motorcycles, management noted that commercial motorcycles accounted for the fre...
