Of the trees blocking our pathway to Invicta Dr. Who (I am a conscious FATSSSAite) It gives me great pleasure to once again make an appearance this semester. Today, like always, I feel concerned about the deafening inertia of the faculty student leaders on one of the pressing infrastructural intervention affecting all and sundry. There is cause to worry about the possibility of the pathway leading inward to the Faculty of Education from the Faculty of the Social Sciences being barricaded by trees in the not-too-distant future. Such apprehension is borne not just because of the series of projections tending towards such doomsday scenario, but also because recent rainfall and its effect on the fast growth of these trees reasonably point to the beginning of the projections.  The growing concern being expressed by FATSSSAites over the discomfort and irritation they experience each time they ply this route should not be overlooked. Much as it seemed to have taken the faculty by s...

NAPSS senate president, Tofunmi suspended over inefficiency and negligence of office By: Oyekanmi Abiodun [Politikz] NAPSS senate president, Ishola Oluwatofunmi, has been “provisionally” suspended on Saturday. Members of the NAPSS Senate Council made this decision after a tense debate over the conduct of the four-term serving senator on the issue concerning the suspension of the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Deborah, last semester. According to the senators, the senate president was found complicit of deceiving the House with his unconstitutionally directive given to the DSP over the slash in the Senate annual allocation. It was said that the senate president ordered the DSP not to receive a pay-cut beyond 10% at a leaders meeting held in April. An order the president have previously denied.  With the suspension, Sen. Ewaoluwa from 400-level constituency have emerged in acting capacity. The suspension is due to last for one week, during which time a 4-man committee set up by...

CORN AND ITS HEALTH BENEFITS     By Anuoluwa Omolafe      GEO 300L       It's the season of corn and it can be found virtually everywhere (shouts of agbado ijoo reee, draws many attention) as majority love its sweet taste, “who no like better thing”.  It can be boiled, roasted or even added to our meals to give it that classic taste.      A lot of people are confused with corn: Is it a vegetable, or a carb? And is it actually good for you? Technically, corn is a member of the whole grain family. And yes, it can be very good for you. Corn is also naturally gluten-free, which makes it a good alternative to wheat for those who must avoid gluten.  Here are four more unique health benefits of corn. 1. Corns packs whole-grain perks As a whole grain, corn is in a health-protective food category. Numerous studies have tied whole grain consumption to a lower risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer, type 2 diabetes, and obesity...

Making Possibilities Out Of Impossibilities . BY Anuoluwa Omolafe GEO 300L These are 5 ways of making impossibilities possible, enjoy... 1. The Invisible Everything visible came from the invisible world.  Sunday Adelaja This is the area we know nothing about  it is not even on our radar, we dont know that it exists. Only when we discover (by accident) or someone else tells us that, do we move the needle from the Invisible to Impossible. And let me give you some examples of The Invisible: 1. Ibrahim Hamito A table tennis player with no hands. He plays using his mouth and neck. But the biggest surprise is how he serves. 2.  Building a 15 storey  in China is an everyday activity. 3.  Warren Buffet reads 500bpages a day. Considering that the average book is around 250 pages, that means he reads 2 books a day or 650700 books a year. An average American reads less than 4 a year. The Invisible now becomes visible. You know that its happening somewhe...

FATSSSA PRESIDENT AND FATSSSA PRESS’ EDITOR-IN-CHIEF AT WAR OF WORDS OVER ALLEGED ANTI-PRESS COMMENTS FROM THE PRESIDENT.                                   By Achieverbae GEO, 3OOL At the Faculty of The Social Sciences Students Association’s House of Representatives Sitting which held on Friday in Rm 036 of the Faculty basement, a heated engagement ensued between the President of the association, Mr Josiah Obong Josiah, and the Editor in Chief of the FATSSSA press Mr Emmanuel Ajiboye.  The short-lived but heated exchange of words between the two was born out of some comments attributed to the President of the association, in which he was said to have argued against the 1% subvention of the dues which the association’s constitution awards to the Press for the pursuit of her activities. Mr Ajiboye, who was not present at the start of the sitting, came in halfway during one of the President’s p...

THE CHALLENGE OF EXECTIVES’ IMPUNITY AND INTOLERANCE, TO PRESS FREEDOM  By Emmanuel Ajiboye  GEO 300L One of the commonsense understanding about a university is that it is the preparatory site for high level professionalism, waiting outside school. Hence it has not been an eyesore when law students in the university try to behave as though they were lawyers defending clients, students that would become tech pros trying out their hands in one or more mini tech projects, and future journalists learning the etiquettes of covering a story of public interest, interviewing witnesses and styling their contents to meet target audience. All these extra-classroom skills make for the quality of university education, and ensuring the outputs of its environment are distinguished from the rough-knuckles found in the StreetSide. In this wise, democracy is the towering culture of the university environment, the guardian of all acts and attitudes and the lenses for knowing and judging d...
