“I like leaving a land mark”

Can you please introduce yourself?
I am Miss Agu Nita Nonyelum, a 400level student of Psychology. I am the first daughter of Mr and Mrs Agu. I have three siblings two boys and a girl and I'm from Enugu state.

How has your stay been in UI?
It's been a hell of a ride (laughs), a lot of experiences, both good and bad especially when I had to balance being a student and an executive.

Why Psychology?
Psychology is a very beautiful course, it teaches you about perspectives to seeing things, it helps you see things not just your point of view but other people's point of view. This will help anyone live and adapt to wherever or whoever they find themselves with.

Did you pick Psychology?
No, initially it was economics. But it was always medicine, I decided to run away from the sciences and go to economics but as God will have it, he brought me to Psychology which is science related.

How has the experience been so far?
I have been enjoying psychology so far.

Have your expectations been met in Psychology?
Yes, it has, I had a list before coming here and when I look at that list, 80% of my expectations have been met.

Favorite quote?
Hard work doesn't kill it usually brings out the best in you.

Favorite food?
Abacha with a lot of onions and pepper.

Hobby
I love swimming.

Any side business?
Yes, I'm into business, I am a forex trader and I also sell perfume oil (that's really on the side).

Any obstacles faced while studying psychology?
Yes, a lot especially in 100level, I had a barrier with the stalites so we came in without any help, we just picked any course. The hostels also served as another barrier, carrying water in Idia, getting used to living with 6 other people in a room (that time).

Best year in UI?
That would be 200level. It was stress free for me.

Worst year?
My 300level, it was very hectic, I had to balance being being the vice president of my department and being a student, which is stress on its own. It really got to my health and I was hospitalized for a while.

Why did you decide to go for those posts?
I love change, I love leaving a landmark wherever I go, I love being remembered for the places I have been to and what I have done, I want to be a woman of value and not just ordinary. I also wanted to pass through school and school to pass through me and also leadership positions make you open to experiences.

What would you say about the virtual classes?
It's something new, yes, I attend online programmes and seminars but when it comes to teaching, I am the type of person that loves to listen to body language (this really helps in my exams), but this didn't really work well for me during online lectures, coupled with the barrier of network and spending a lot of data. But in all, this virtual classes really helped me rest well.

After UI, what's next?
Change is constant, we are in technological era, it's only normal I adapt to this change. Plans you have yesterday might not be the same for tomorrow, you just have to keep going. For me, the reason why I learned forex trading is because I know it is here to stay.

Any shout-out?
Yes, to my classmates, you guys have been so amazing and supportive. All my friends too physical and online from Mazi, Love, Salome and Anu, you guys are always there for me. Thank you

Thank you.
