9th WEEK, THE NIGHTS WEEK!

Ayoolajesu Victoria Ojo Into the ninth and further into the night Into the ninth and longer into the night Into the ninth and louder the call of the night Just one ninth and the looming nights Just one ninth, an intensity of the ongoing fights Just one ninth, an assembly of the night knights The closer this ninth got The more it dawned into a needed night In the hope that those decimals take to flight Make hay while the sun shines? No, we’ll wait for a night bright Eyes wide, ITEMS supplies, KDL tight A ninth adorned with deadlines Many nights to tackle their silent cries  And there’s me, trying to make more headlines Because irrespective of the subtle frights Some of u go write We know that las las, everybody go dey alright.

LIFE.....

Image
Dear life Dear life We've had a pretty fight I know you want to reign supreme But I'm a master of loop holes, and I also have a team Of my best and closest of friends to help me not to die And am gonna survive Come on now, give me all your obstacles and fights I'll turn them all into simplicity and fly I will get around, everything you throw my way And I'm making a fight for myself, today I will not fall prey Not today Even if I'm broken I'm not paying the trolls token Dear life, I know we've had our fights But we can't just agree There are beautiful sights to see There are great places to go, choices to make Being refused Learning rejection and the truth Being a teen in this crazy world Life, I've never said this before But can we be allies in this war?

AFRICA

Image
Africa our Africa, Africa a land richly blessed by the superior. How else would I described my Africa? For each letter has a significance. The "A" stands for Admiration, that which radiates in our faces, our nation and our future. The "F" stands for Freeborn, the legacy we live, the superiority above all degradation believing we aren't slaves. The "R" stands for Relentlessness, that which depicts our inner and physical strength, despite the challenges and Challengers. The "I" stands for Independent, our confidence to do things without reliance on any. The "C" stand's for Competence,   our ability to handle racism and other core issues of life without fretting. The "A" stands for Amazing, Our amazing culture, tradition, values and norms that becomes envious in the sight of others. I'm proud to be African. I'm proud to be Nigerian. I'm proud to be Black. - Yanmife Ote...

REALITY OR SUPERSTITION?

Image
Bathing in the rain Throwing your teeth on the roof Eating in a mortal Ensuring a lizard doesn't see the space left by a removed tooth The moment you realized all this were fallacies, you drew a bold line between superstition and reality. "It’s a lie jor, it's logically erroneous. These people have come again with their superstitions" that was my neighbor, Jade Sola's reaction to a local chief accusing her of allowing Darcy her daughter play in the rain Anyways, I don't have a problem with that, but permit me to ask you, "What do you think of Superstitions?" Invariably, if it's not logical, it's superstitious, is that true of what you think? Hummmnn... Jadesola here had long drawn a bold line between superstition and reality. But Jadesola's facial expression would be an understatement if interpreted as shocked, when right in her presence, the whirlwind rolled into the sky and then out of sight her little Darcy. Tr...

BOUND BY STRANGE DESIRES

Image
Her waist was encircled In your arms. She laughed, mouth agape, as your fingers danced with delight, Atop her belly button. Your intrigue held her bound Like a spell. But it was you who was under a spell. You watched her undo her covering And your eyes were fed full. Yet something in you, Stronger than you, wanted more! So you plunged forward with desire. You felt her tenderness And you couldn't stop the thoughts, Nor the actions that followed. The experience was ecstatic Yet you felt empty afterwards. Adigun's description of the feeling, of the unimaginable experience All turned out to be an oversell! You pick up you clothes, Make for the door But you're drawn back by her allure Like a serpent, you glide your way Next to her unsheathed body. You'd rather feel empty One more time. Or two more, Or many more times. © GIFT UZOR (PROF GEE)

NEW BEGINNINGS

NEW BEGINNINGS It’s only the beginning now …a pathway yet unknown At times the sound of other steps …sometimes we walk alone The best beginnings of our lives May sometimes end in sorrow But even on our darkest days

February 1971

Image
A day like every other day Well, so you thought An activist, so you were Fighting for students’ rights your goal Student welfarism, your life On February 1st 1971 Oh! That wicked day You stood from your bed never to lie on it again Who knew you were never going to lie down on a cool and cozy bed Except in the grave Not even you If you had known what would happen! Oh! That day The flowers nodded, the wind howled Were they trying to tell you something? Or just doing their natural calling Nobody knows Death laid its cold and icy hands on you It put a period to your endeavours That sudden moment When the gun was fired and the bullet wheezed by Looking for someone to end Alas! It got to you You fell on that day for welfarism to rise You paid the ultimate price for our enjoyment You died in the struggle for better welfare services to students Oh! What an irony of life You fought for a cause you never knew you wouldn’t enjoy You c...
