UPDATE ON THE USE AND MAINTENANCE OF THE NEWLY RENOVATED FACULTY TOILET FACILITIES

The Executive Council through the office of the Assistant General Secretary released a memo to general public of the Association on Friday, 7th of August 2026, updating them on the use and maintenance of the newly renovated faculty toilet facilities.

According to the statement released, the renovation was carried out by the Faculty Management under the leadership of the immediate past Dean, Professor B. O. Ehigie, in response to long-standing concerns over the poor condition of the faculty’s toilet facilities and the challenge of inadequate water supply. 

It was explained that the intervention stemmed from an earlier courtesy visit by the Executive Council to the erstwhile Dean, during which several student welfare issues were tabled, prominent among the concerns were the deteriorating state of the toilets and the need for a sustainable water supply, both of which have now been addressed through the renovation project.

The students’ executive leadership body therefore urged members of the faculty to use the facilities responsibly in order to ensure their longevity. Students were advised to flush the toilets after every use, maintain cleanliness, avoid unnecessary disposal of sanitary pads, tissue paper, nylons, bottles, and other solid waste into toilet bowls, use water judiciously, and refrain from vandalising any part of the newly developed facilities.

Describing the preservation of the facilities as a collective responsibility, the Executive Council further encouraged students to promptly report any faults or damages to enable timely intervention. It reaffirmed its commitment to engaging with the Faculty Management on initiatives that promote student’s welfare.

This renovation is expected to significantly improve hygiene and convenience within the Faculty of the Social Sciences, addressing an ever standing welfare concern while reinforcing the importance of shared responsibility in maintaining public facilities.
