Aspirant Messages FATSSSAITES to Promote the Momentum Agenda Despite Notification on Campaign Halt
By FATSSSA PRESS
A campaign message promoting Modesty Paul Nsirim, an aspirant for the position of Social Director in the forthcoming FATSSSA election, has been circulated to students despite the directive for aspirants and their supporters to cease campaign activities.
The message, sent from a contact identified as “MOMENTUM,” was received at about 8:27 a.m. on Thursday, October 8, and called on students to support Nsirim under the Momentum agenda.
“Fatsssaites, Make your voice count and help shape the next social season we deserve. Choose, Modesty Paul Nsirim for Social Director, The Momentum Agenda,” the message read.
This development comes after the campaign period had reportedly elapsed, with aspirants and campaign teams expected to discontinue activities aimed at soliciting votes.
The circulation of the message has consequently raised concerns among FATSSSAITES regarding compliance with the IFEC electoral guidelines, particularly the enforcement of the directive against further campaigning. While the message identifies the candidate and solicits support for her candidacy, it does not independently establish whether the candidate personally authorized its circulation.
The incident also puts attention on the electoral authorities to clarify the extent of the campaign ban and whether messages circulated through private or electronic channels fall within its scope.
As the election is currently ongoing, the development has renewed questions about adherence to the rules governing the electoral process and whether campaign restrictions are being applied consistently to all aspirants.
This also is a notice to all aspirants to desist from breaking stipulated protocol during the time allocated for exercising their voting franchise.
FATSSSA electoral authorities, IFEC, is yet to publicly comment on the message as of the time of this incident.
