New Dean, Sub-Dean Assume Office at UI Faculty of The Social Sciences

The Faculty of The Social Sciences Students’ Association (FATSSSA), University of Ibadan, has announced the inauguration of a new leadership at the management level, marking the beginning of a new administrative tenure.

According to a statement released by the Association today, Sunday, 2nd of August 2026, Professor Olajide O. Akanji of the Department of Political Science has been formally inaugurated as the Dean, Faculty of The Social Sciences, while Dr Godwin Daniels, also of the Department of Political Science, has assumed office as the Sub-Dean of the Faculty.

The statement clearly indicated this change showing that the transition is already complete and effective. The transition follows the successful completion of the tenure of the immediate past Dean, Professor Benjamin O. Ehigie, under whose administration the Faculty sustained its academic and institutional development.

In its announcement, Fatsssa expressed confidence in the newly inaugurated leadership, describing both appointees as accomplished academics whose experience, exemplary leadership, and commitment to excellence will further strengthen the Faculty’s reputation.

The Association reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Dean’s Office to promote students’ welfare, enhance academic excellence, and support initiatives aimed at advancing the Faculty. It noted that it looks forward to a collaborative relationship founded on dialogue, mutual respect, and a shared vision for continuous progress.

Fatsssa also paid tribute to the outgoing leadership, commending Professor Ehigie and the immediate past Sub-Dean, Dr Olufunke Adegoke, for their distinguished service, visionary leadership, and invaluable contributions during their tenure. The Association wished both academics continued success in their future endeavours.

The statement, jointly signed by the Association's President - Adegoke Peter and General Secretary - Oyinkansola Ayodele, concluded with a congratulatory message to Professor Akanji and Dr Daniels as they commence their tenure as Dean and Sub-Dean, respectively.
