The University of Ibadan holds its career fair on 7th November, 2025. The major focus of this event was graduands, graduates and final year students because the aim of the program is to prepare them for global opportunities, but it also accommodated other levels of students.
The event started at exactly 9:10 a.m. with the school anthem and national anthem, even though there were glitches from the DJ, the anthems were still recited. Afterwards was the opening remark taken by Mrs Joke Akinpelu and the recognition of the dignitaries that graced the event. The VC, Prof. K.O. Adebowale, the DVC (Admin), Prof. P. O. Olapegba in absentia, the DVC (Academic), Prof. J.T. Arotiba, the DVC (Research, Innovation, and Strategic Partnership), Prof. Oluyemisi Bamgbose, the Registrar, Mr G. O. Saliu, the Bursar, Mr A. Poopola in absentia.
The convener of the program, Prof. Olutoye Fasaye, gave a welcome speech and said that such collaboration shouldn't be limited to these events alone and that more learning opportunities should be created for students before they graduate. The DVC (Research, Innovation, and Strategic Partnership) proceeded to give her welcome speech, and afterwards, the VC, Prof. K. O. Adebowale, gave his address and declared the career fair opened.
The event was graced with many other dignitaries and different organisations that partnered with the school. We have First Bank and Aradel as the major partners, while we have other partners like Gino, Parsons Law firm, Dangote, Bovas, Asido, Tolulope Book Club, Item 7, among others, who partnered for the events. It's worth noting that these organisations were also around to give job opportunities to students, especially final year students and graduates. They also came with freebies that were given out to students who visited various tents.
The program wasn't only about the organisations and the dignitaries; a keynote speech was delivered by Mr Akinsope Robert, who represented the Managing Director/CEO of First Bank, Nigeria. He emphasised the importance of leadership in his speech and defined the acronym LEADERSHIP. A speech was also given by the guest Speaker, Dr Gabriel Onagoruwa, a founding partner of Parsons international law firm. The guest Speaker travelled down from London for the event, and he indeed delivered a great speech, emphasising the importance of Character and integrity in our talent.
The panel session was held afterwards where we had five panellists; Dr Oluseyi Akindeinde, Founder, Hyperspace Technologies; Dr Seun Fakorede, Executive Adviser to Oyo State Governor on Youth and Sports; Toyosi Olatayo, C.E.O., Palmira Farmtrade Limited; Oreoluwa Atinmo, Marketing Director, GBfoods Nigeria; Mr Victor Olajide and Mrs Olamide K. Olofinnyo, Creative Director, MC Kofoworola Mediatainment World as the Moderator.
The major emphasis at the panel session is to embrace technology and leverage its advantages. It was also emphasised to be AUDACIOUS: demand from life what you want from it. Don't wait for it to come to you.
The program was brought to an end with a closing remark by Dr Olufunke Adegoke, a member of the committee for the program. Afterwards, the students spread across to different tents where we had different organisations.
