EDITORIAL: THE WEIGHT OF FINANCIAL BURDEN: CHALLENGES FACED BY UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

"A hungry stomach and an empty pocket makes for a restless mind."

In a world where dreams were meant to be realized, futures molded, and opportunities built, a young girl walked majestically with hopes soaring high and goals she had in mind to achieve. But no one told her it would be more than just the dreams, more than the goals. There was more to this world than what television showed us.

In a small community, an average family with four children struggled to survive. The girl, the eldest of the other three siblings, had always envisioned herself excelling in university, breaking records, and becoming the woman of her dreams. However, as she stepped through the university gates, she felt trapped in the shackles of financial burden.

The hustle and bustle of university life were already a significant stress on her mental health. The academic pressure to maintain a perfect CGPA and be the best version of herself was overwhelming. But what made it even harder was the constant distraction of hunger and financial worries. Her mind would wander to thoughts of "What am I going to eat today?" or "Where will I get money for Dr. Obi's assignment?" These questions made it difficult for her to focus on her studies, and she found herself zoning out in class, her stomach growling louder than the lecturer's voice.

The lack of financial stability took a toll on her academic performance. She would often find herself preoccupied with thoughts of how to make ends meet, rather than focusing on her studies. The pressure to succeed academically was immense, but the weight of financial burden made it feel like a difficult battle.

As she navigated this challenging world, she realized that financial struggles were not just about surviving; they were about thriving even when it became very difficult. She had to find a way to break free from the shackles of financial burden and pursue her dreams.

For university students like her, the journey to academic success is often overshadowed by the weight of financial struggles. The shackles of financial burden can be suffocating, making it difficult to focus on studies and other set goals. Yet, despite these challenges, many students persevere, driven by their strong-will to succeed and create a better future for themselves.
