THE FACULTY OF THE SOCIAL SCIENCES DECLARES LECTURE FREE DAYS

The Dean of the Faculty of The Social Sciences, Prof Benjamin O. Ehigie circulated an internal memorandum on Saturday, 14th of June 2025. Contained in the memo, was a notification to all Heads of Departments in the Faculty to declare three lecture free days which is to begin from Monday, 16th of June to Wednesday, 18th of June.

The purpose of this, is to avail students of the Faculty the opportunity to attend the 2nd Annual Ibadan International Social Sciences Conference (AIISSC). This is a program organized by the Faculty which will hold at 9 a.m during the lecture free days. He stated that this notification be treated importantly.

By Emmanuel Akinwale Gloria Popoola, a 400-level student of the Department of Political Science, has emerged as the first runner-up in the 2024 AESP ( African Economic Scholars Program ) National Policy Challenge sponsored by the Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Leadership and Citizenship and Policy Innovation Centre. The African Economic Scholars Program (AESP) is an initiative designed to build the next generation of African policymakers by exposing scholars to innovative tools and training.  The National Policy Challenge sought to identify the best policy strategies for the Nigerian Federation in two areas: Gender equity and Climate change. Aluta Continua: UI students Protest over Fee hike, electricity rationing scheme

  By Emmanuel Akinwale The University of Ibadan was engulfed in a significant protest from the late hours of July 16th into the early hours of July 17th. The protest was ignited following an announcement by the University Management on July 16th, 2024, regarding the implementation of an electricity rationing scheme that would limit power supply on campus to just 10 hours a day. The protest allegedly began at the Zik-Indy axis and quickly spread to other Halls of Residence on campus, escalating like wildfire. Protesters gathered at several key locations, including the UI school gate, the UISU building, the Vice Chancellor's Hall of Residence, the Registrar’s residence, and the Dean of Students’ residence. Initially, the UI SU President, Aweda Bolaji, was reportedly hesitant to support the protest but eventually joined the demonstration at the Vice Chancellor's residence.
