UI'SU NOTIFIES STUDENT COMMUNITY ON TOWN HALL MEETING RESOLUTIONS

On the 2nd of May, 2025, a Town hall meeting was held with the University of Ibadan Students’ Union Executives and various student leaders from different constituencies. It was noted that about 150 student leaders were present at the meeting.

The meeting began at 2:10 PM where the student leaders highlighted the challenges and issues encountered by students in their different constituencies. The UI’SU President, Covenant Odedele, stated the current activities and initiatives of the Union and as well expatiated on plans to collaborate with the student leaders to resolve the challenges identified. He also gave an update on the recent germane developments within the University, then an open forum was made available for comments and further discussions. 

The meeting ended at 5:40 PM with the following resolutions;

1.  The UI’SU will compile and present all raised concerns and complaints to the University’s Management. 

2. All Departmental and Faculty Presidents of constituencies affected by the discrepancies in fees are to collate and submit a detailed breakdown of school fees paid by their students to the Students’ Union. 

3. A congress may be held on or before May 10th depending on the feedback of their upcoming consultations with the University Management. 

The UI’SU Executive Council commended the active participation of the students leaders at the Town Hall’s Meeting asserting, “Your contributions are invaluable as we collectively work towards addressing challenges facing our student community” and expressed their continuous commitment to interests’ representation and a provision of consequent updates.

Aluta Continua: UI students Protest over Fee hike, electricity rationing scheme

  By Emmanuel Akinwale The University of Ibadan was engulfed in a significant protest from the late hours of July 16th into the early hours of July 17th. The protest was ignited following an announcement by the University Management on July 16th, 2024, regarding the implementation of an electricity rationing scheme that would limit power supply on campus to just 10 hours a day. The protest allegedly began at the Zik-Indy axis and quickly spread to other Halls of Residence on campus, escalating like wildfire. Protesters gathered at several key locations, including the UI school gate, the UISU building, the Vice Chancellor's Hall of Residence, the Registrar’s residence, and the Dean of Students’ residence.
