THE FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES HELD DEAN'S ROLL OF HONOR AND FRESHERS' ORIENTATION CEREMONY

The Faculty of The Social Sciences held its Dean’s roll of honor and Freshers’orientation ceremony on the 14th of May, 2025. This ceremony kicked off at 10:15a.m, with the introduction of the various dignitaries present at the event which included the Dean of the Faculty, Prof B. O. Ehigie, the Subdean, Dr Olufunke Adegoke, the Heads of the different departments, the Faculty librarian and the Faculty officer among others.
After the recitation of the National and University anthems, the welcome address was given by the President of the Faculty, Animashaun Boluwatife. He emphasized the primary purpose of being a student of the University and advised the freshmen to learn skills and build relationships. The Dean then took the stage to speak on the vision and mission of the Faculty which is to train undergraduates and postgraduates, and equip them with the necessary skills needed to address and analyze societal issues relative to their disciplines.
Other personalities who took the stage to give speeches included the Subdean who spoke on registration and graduation requirements, Prof Olutoyin Fashaye who gave a speech on finding the balance between academic wellness and extracurricular activities, Prof Francisca Ukpolo who sensitized students on gender inequality and sexual harassment, Prof A. Oluwole who spoke on bridging the gap between career and mental health, Dr Abel Obosi who created awareness about the student help center in the Faculty.
Afterwards, the Dean was invited to present the awards of excellence to deserving students.
A total of 62 students received these awards, 29 students from Psychology, 25 students from Political Science and 8 students from Sociology. Then the freshmen were called up to the podium to take pictures with the Dean of the Faculty and other personalities present, this brought the program to an end.
