NELFUND HOLDS A QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION TO ADDRESS STUDENTS’ CONCERNS IN UI

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) on Wednesday, 21st of May 2025 held a gathering at Trenchad Hall, University of Ibadan to give students the opportunity to interact with its officials, inorder to get more clarity on the initiative. This event was attended by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Peter Olapegba who represented the Vice Chancellor, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr Aliu Mohammed, among others.

Mrs Alao, the University of Ibadan NELFUND representative reported that 4,809 students had applied and been verified for this session. The Deputy Vice Chancellor in his remarks advised students to embrace the NELFUND initiative and take the loan with the thought of paying back to preserve it for future generations.

Mr Aliu Mohammed, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation at NELFUND together with other of its officials responded to several questions asked by students including how to track loan applications, feedback channels, loan processes, etc.

Students were also assured that pending loans from 2023/2024 academic session would roll over to the new session without having to re-apply. The NELFUND officials further stated that disbursement would take place in two weeks.

Aluta Continua: UI students Protest over Fee hike, electricity rationing scheme

The protest was ignited following an announcement by the University Management on July 16th, 2024, regarding the implementation of an electricity rationing scheme that would limit power supply on campus to just 10 hours a day. The protest allegedly began at the Zik-Indy axis and quickly spread to other Halls of Residence on campus, escalating like wildfire. Protesters gathered at several key locations, including the UI school gate, the UISU building, the Vice Chancellor's Hall of Residence, the Registrar’s residence, and the Dean of Students’ residence.
