FATSSSA PRESS EDITORIAL BOARD MEETS WITH THE DEAN OF THE FACULTY

The Editorial Board of the Faculty of The Social Sciences Press Organization met with the Dean of the Faculty, Prof Benjamin O. Ehigie on Wednesday, 21st of May 2025. The meeting which was to begin at 2:00pm was held in the Dean's office.

The highlights of the meeting included; a formal introduction of members of the Editorial Board of the 2024/25 academic session to the Dean which is a tradition. A brief exposition about the Press arm to the Dean, its components and duties.

In the course of interaction, a few issues were raised and the Dean recommended viable solutions to the Board members for the tackling of these concerns. Afterwards, the pressmen took pictures with the Dean which brought the meeting to a closure.

By Emmanuel Akinwale Gloria Popoola, a 400-level student of the Department of Political Science, has emerged as the first runner-up in the 2024 AESP ( African Economic Scholars Program ) National Policy Challenge sponsored by the Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Leadership and Citizenship and Policy Innovation Centre. The African Economic Scholars Program (AESP) is an initiative designed to build the next generation of African policymakers by exposing scholars to innovative tools and training.  The National Policy Challenge sought to identify the best policy strategies for the Nigerian Federation in two areas: Gender equity and Climate change. Applicants were expected to engage in thorough research and produce unique and original policies on either of these areas. Aluta Continua: UI students Protest over Fee hike, electricity rationing scheme

  By Emmanuel Akinwale The University of Ibadan was engulfed in a significant protest from the late hours of July 16th into the early hours of July 17th. The protest was ignited following an announcement by the University Management on July 16th, 2024, regarding the implementation of an electricity rationing scheme that would limit power supply on campus to just 10 hours a day. The protest allegedly began at the Zik-Indy axis and quickly spread to other Halls of Residence on campus, escalating like wildfire. Protesters gathered at several key locations, including the UI school gate, the UISU building, the Vice Chancellor's Hall of Residence, the Registrar’s residence, and the Dean of Students’ residence. Initially, the UI SU President, Aweda Bolaji, was reportedly hesitant to support the protest but eventually joined the demonstration at the Vice Chancellor's residence.
