The University of Ibadan officially held its 2024/2025 Matriculation Ceremony for the newly admitted freshmen on the 16th of April 2025, which is today at the prestigious International Conference Centre.

The event, which marked a significant milestone in the lives of the fresh undergraduates, began with the arrival of matriculating students, university officials and parents.

The ceremony featured the administration of the Matriculation Oath, conducted by the University Registrar, Mr. Ganiu Saliu, formally inducting the students into the institution.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, congratulated the new students for earning a place at Nigeria’s premier university. He emphasized the institution’s rich legacy of academic excellence and charged the students to uphold the university’s values. He urged them to be disciplined, manage their time wisely, and aim for distinction in both academic and extracurricular engagements.

A highlight of the ceremony was the keynote lecture delivered by UI alumnus and Veterinary Medicine graduate, Dr. Olukayode Abiola Ayenuyo. In his speech, Dr. Ayenuyo advised the students to approach their university journey with intentionality and curiosity and to find a balance in all they put their hands into.

As a gesture of goodwill and support for his alma meter, Dr. Ayenuyo donated a generous sum of five million naira to the University of Ibadan.

The event was graced by members of the University Management, Faculty Deans, as well as the leadership of the Students' Union, led by its President. The ceremony, filled with hope and promise, marked not only the beginning of an academic journey for the freshers but also a reaffirmation of the university’s commitment to nurturing excellence. With the conclusion of the oath-taking and ceremonial proceedings, the Class of 2024/2025 officially began their transformative journey at the University of Ibadan.
