UI-SRC supports the increment of Basic Dues across Faculties and Halls from N3000 to N4000

On April 7 the UI-SRC moved the motion for the increment of Basic Dues across Halls and Faculties. After the lengthy recess, the Chief Whip of the SRC collated the results of all polls collected from the Hall and Faculty constituencies. It was discovered that after the collation of results, 509 students across Halls and 668 students across Faculties supported the increment while 590 students across Halls and 582 students across Faculties were against it. On totalling these figures, it was highlighted that about 1177 students affirmed their support for the increase of the Basic Dues while about 1172 students opposed it. The Speaker of the House - Rt. Hon Shoge Quadri in his words “ there was a slight margin between those who supported the increase and those who went against it” In the meantime, the Honourable members moved motions for the increase in Basic Dues. Hon. Ajayi moved for an increase from N3000 to N5000 but called it off when Hon. Moyinola made an amendment to the motion voting for an increase of N1000 to the current fee. Hon Qudus and Oduola Peter moved for N3500 and N4000 respectively, then the votes were subjected to the Council. Twenty four members voted for the increment of the Basic Dues to N4000 while 17 others voted for the Basic Dues to be increased to N3500. The Speaker afterwards declared the order of the Council based on the votes.
