POEM: WEB OF THORNS

by Nwaka Esther

Like the sun to the crops of the field, you massage my soul

It seemed like you'd be a part of me, to nurture yet scorch

Like opposites attracted, you called into me

Gallivanting, we circled around each other

We shouldn't be together, our paths should never have crossed

We kept pulling back and forth, to leave or not to leave

You saw an innocent flower

You were scared and tried to run but the pull was  more than you could resist

I was scared, you were more than I could handle

Dangerous yet exciting, what I would have avoided

We tried to fight it, then we decided to ignore it

But we eventually fell into the web of complications
