INTERVIEW: “ I will provide a monthly statement of account to the executives and FHR” – Oluwatobiloba, FATSSSA Treasurer Apirant
by Oluwatomisin A.
FATSSSA Press: Introduce yourself and the position you're vying for.
Oluwatobi: Alright good morning one again, My name is Obayemi David Oluwatobi Vying for the position of Treasurer
FATSSSA Press: Is that all FATSSSAITES needs to know about Mr Oluwatobi?
Oluwatobi: I am a 300 level psychology student, Faculty of the Social sciences.
FATSSSA Press: I got the information that you vied for the position of VICE PRESIDENT in the last election.
Why did you decide to withdraw your candidacy in the last election and instead run for the treasurer position now? It's quite a shift from pursuing an academic role to one focused on finance.
Oluwatobi: Thank you very much for the question. I realized it was not all about the office but what I had to offer to Fatsssaites. Asides fulfilling my constitutional duties , there is a lot I can do outside my office.
Oluwatobi: Given the fact that all executive members work as a team , I can also help out the academic committee, while carrying out my duties.
FATSSSA Press: Okay. What understanding do you have about the role and responsibilities of a treasurer?
Oluwatobi : According to the constitution, the Treasurer is the one in charge of banking all monies associated with the Faculty, within 48 hours of payment ( ie basic dues) The treasurer in collaboration with the financial secretary will give a report of the associations account and also be one of the signatories to the account.
FATSSSA Press: Okay, so your only understanding of the role is the constitutional duties?
Oluwatobi: No. Well my understanding about administration is that your constitutional duties is just 30 percent of the work you will do as an exco . Like I said earlier the executives work as a team and whilst carrying out my constitutional duties, any other duty that will be in the best interest of the Association, I will also do that
FATSSSA Press: Do you have any experience or background in financial management?
Oluwatobi: Yes I do, I worked with an individual who sells phones , although I was there to learn the trade , but I was also in charge of the financial aspect, whilst learning.
FATSSSA Press: Interesting, that's the only experience you've had in finance management?
Oluwatobi: Well that's part of it, When I was the Assistant General Secretary of my department, I was also exposed to the financial aspect. As at that time we didn't have a financial Secretary, so I had to work with the treasurer, assisting her and learnt a lot of things. we didn't have a department account as at that time she ran me through the process of the account opening , and I also had access to the departmental mail to track the progress of the account.
FATSSSA Press: If elected as the treasurer, how would you ensure accountability and transparency in managing the faculty's financial records and transactions?
Oluwatobi: By providing a monthly statement of account to the Executives, and the FHR.
FATSSSA Press: Okay, we will hold you to your words.
Oluwatobi: Alright
FATSSSA Press: In your manifesto, you stated that you surveyed FATSSSAITES. When and how did you conduct this survey to conclude that they squander their money and gamble their fees?
Oluwatobi: Well there was a case in my 100 days where an individual gambled with his school fees and at the end of the day he sadly had to the leave the university. It was just a random interview I just had casually just to get their honest opinion
FATSSSA Press: This incident made you conclude that students gamble on their fees. I hope you recognize that this is a generalization and not necessarily accurate. Well, your manifesto says otherwise.
Oluwatobi: It was not a generalization because I took a sample size of about 30 students from different levels and department
FATSSSA Press: Interesting, how did you do that?
Oluwatobi: Asked for their name , department, level and proceeded to ask my questions
FATSSSA Press: Okay, so the students provided that information?
Oluwatobi: Yes
FATSSSA Press: That will be all, Mr. Oluwatobi. Is there anything you would like to say to FATSSSAITES?
Oluwatobi: Stay blessed!!!
