Four Executive Council Members of FATSSSA Suspended for Failure to Inaugurate Committees

In a decisive move, the Faculty of the Social Sciences Students’ Association (FATSSSA) has suspended the Sports Director, Treasurer, The Social Director, and Assistant General Secretary from their duties effective today, November 17th, 2023.

The decision was reached during a session of the FATSSSA House of Representatives, where three members of the executive council faced suspension for two weeks as part of the repercussions for their failure to inaugurate the committees for their respective offices. Additionally, another member was suspended for absenteeism during the sitting.

According to the FATSSSA Constitution, Article 10, Section (i), subsection (II), all Standing committees, except the Audit and Publications committees, as well as the IFEC, must be inaugurated within 30 days of a new session. Mr. Oladipupo, Mr. Ashcroft, and Mr. Animashaun, the defaulting executives, were expected to present members of their sports, social, and sanitation committees to the House and commence their duties since September 26, 2023.

While a grace period was granted due to some prospective committee members not fulfilling their FATSSSA basic dues, the inauguration was rescheduled to today. However, all three executives were absent from the sitting, having requested the removal of their committees' inauguration from the agenda. The Treasurer, Miss Amofuesi, was also absent, neglecting her responsibility to present the statement of account to the House.

The Speaker of the House deemed their behavior "extremely disrespectful" to the House and its Honourable members. Given that this was the last sitting for the semester, members expressed concern that delaying the inaugurations until the next sitting would postpone the start of committee work until at least the third week of the second semester.

Notably, all department Houses of Representatives had successfully concluded their committee inaugurations, further emphasizing the faculty House's lapse.

The House proposed sanctions, and after voting, it was decided that the defaulting executives would face a two-week suspension and issue a public written apology to the House and FATSSSA members at large.
