FATSSSA SPORTS SECRETARY, UNVEILS AMBITIOUS SPORTS PLANS FOR THE SESSION

By Oluwatomisin A.

In a recent interview, the Sports Director, Mr. Olamidipupo Taiwo, provided insight into the exciting plans to unfold this session. The interview revealed key initiatives aimed at fostering sportsmanship and active participation among students.

One noteworthy point from the interview is the inclusiveness of lecturers in one of the sporting activities known as "The Exercise Weekend." Mr. Taiwo explained, "We will have two student instructors leading the drills, and we look forward to including lecturers in this exercise. This creates an environment where fresh students see lecturers in a different light, beyond the four walls of the classroom."

The Sports Director also unveiled plans for collaboration with three other universities' social sciences faculties, namely Lead City University, OAU, and UNILAG, in a novelty game. Additionally, he mentioned a board game and mobile game competition in conjunction with Lead City University.

Another key initiative is the "Health Day Sensitization" program in partnership with the Red Cross Society of Nigeria. This program aims to educate athletes on administering first aid.

Furthermore, Mr. Taiwo expressed a commitment to boosting the social media presence of the faculty's sports activities and athletes. This will be achieved by creating a Twitter account, a FATSSSA sports group on WhatsApp, and the continued use of the Instagram account.

In response to a question about new sporting activities FATSSSA should expect, he mentioned exploring the introduction of Esports (mobile games) and creating a competition for them.

In conclusion, the Sports Director conveyed a message to students of the Faculty: "Let us all come together and support the sporting activities in the faculty in any way we can. Our faculty is the envy of others; we are the faculty to beat in competitions, and rightly so. We should carry that swagger and arrogance everywhere we go. But we can't do that without adequate support for our teams and athletes. So please, help us help you so we can all make FATSSSA proud, and in turn, you can be proud of FATSSSA."
With these plans, the Faculty of Social Sciences students can look forward to an active and dynamic sporting event this session.
