FATSSSA FHR Inaugurates A Constitution Review Committee

 

The House of Representatives of the Faculty of The Social Sciences Students Association has inaugurated a Constitution Review Committee. This was at her Sitting held on Friday November 25, 2022.  The Committee will be set with the duty to overhaul the existing Constitution and pronounce a new one.

At a prior Sitting of the FHR, a fortnight earlier, the Speaker of the House Hon. Idoko Adoyi says "...we are basically rebuilding FATSSSA. It is a really long journey ahead..."

    WHAT IS A CONSTITUTION REVIEW?

In acceptable political parlance, the Review of a Constitution is significantly differentiated from the process for its amendments. The constitutional amendments will involve one or more alterations, additions and removals, among others, but the process of a Review is usually more thorough. A Review has to do with the complete overhaul of the Constitution which gives room for describing afresh the association's aims, objectives, goals and content of membership, among others. The Review may also define new institutions that were not part of the previous existing constitution.


CONSTITUENTS OF THE REVIEW COMMIITTEE

According to the Constitution, a Review Committee must comprise of;

  •  two members of the Executives Council,
  • four members of the FHR,
  • two members from the FATSSSA Press
  • two congressmen, among others.
The nominated members of the Executives Council include the Vice President and the Assistant General Secretary, while there was a tie in the membership from the Congress as three individuals had volunteered.
At the end of what appeared to be a quick campaign, members of the House conducted a quick election through secret balloting to determine the membership from the Congress.
Fielded were Daniel, Idris (Psych 400L) and Adebisi (Soc 400L).
Adebisi and Idris had the highest scores in the election and were unanimously inaugurated.
At the end of the exercise, the Speaker thanked all participants and assured that the process of Constitutional Review will this time be all-encompassing, and welcome ideas from all and sundry.

THE FATSSSA WEEK EVENTS THROUGH THE EYES OF A NERDY FATSSSAITE

However, there had been loud hiccups with the crispy picnic, so many might have been hesitant to show up at the FATSSSA Week events. In preparation for the opening day of the events, the Large Lecture Theatre had been decorated. A large purple banner bearing the name of the faculty, with beautiful splashes of white and orange, was glued to the wall. The week started with an incredible intellectual programme - ‘Dean For  A Day’ and ‘FATSSSAites who inspire us’. I was determined to attend the programme as it was a new trend and I was curious to see how it would turn out. My mouth went agape as I saw FATSSSAites rush to the event.
