Interview

Fatsssa Press correspondent, Kayode Oyeniran had an interview with the President of the Faculty of the Social Science Students' Association (FATSSSA), Mr Faith Omitoyin. In the interview, a few issues were considered, most of which bothered on the current administration. He gave an account of his stewardship and he hinted on the things to expect.

Kay_niran: Who is Faith Omitoyin?

Faith Omitoyin: Faith Omitoyin is a 400 level student of Sociology in the University of Ibadan. A gentle but outspoken, humble but understands self esteem and a god fearing administer of tasks

Kay_niran: Talking about tasks, you took up the task of presiding over the affairs of FATSSSA in the previous year. How has the journey been for you?
Faith Omitoyin: I will say it has never been smooth from the day I won the election till this day but the spirit of patriotism coupled with ability to annex some potentials within and most importantly the grace of God, we wax stronger day by day

Kay_niran: Your administration had a little hiccup in the weeks preceding the start of the strike. Can you tell us, what exactly happened?
Faith Omitoyin: I have noticed a number of hiccups during the administration. Please be more specific so I can shed more light to your desirable spot sir.

Kay_niran: There was a sort of power tussle between the executive and the legislative arms of the association and a number of members of the executive arm were suspended. What went wrong?
Faith Omitoyin: I won't say it was an issue of power tussle. The executive council in attempt to fastrack some things for the benefit of the rank and file of FATSSSAites executed before approval by the legislative arm which was seeming to take eternity at that time and by the time the legislative arm got some information about it, some officers were indefinitely suspended while investigation was made and they got to know the truth about it which eventually led to my reinstatement

Kay_niran: While some decisions may be in the common interest. Do you think fast tracking  things in governance particularly  bypassing the legislative arm in financial matters is constitutional?

Faith Omitoyin: As much as it can be arguably constitutionally wrong, it is also unarguable constitutionally wrong to delay approval of budget

Kay_niran: Tell us about the progress level of your administration, what have you been able to achieve so far?
Faith Omitoyin: We have been able to achieve many things. We have done many things and recorded big sucess

We processed, influenced and followed up the upgrading of over 30 FATSSSAites' portal when they had issues with the Students' Affairs Division at the beginning of the session.

We influenced the accomodation process that was not favourable to FATSSSAites to benefit more FATSSSAites in the female halls of residence and Independence hall.

We organized a campus talk after the normal orientation for freshers.

We have been following the freshers academically, emmotionally, financially and in some other aspect through FATSSSA student to student mentorship. Though many freshers are not willing to submit to their mentors but those that have been doing so did and can testify that it has been helpful.

We have been conducting  tutorials for 100 and 200level students as well as some 300level students upon request in classrooms which is more condusive unlike under the trees and open places that they can be distracted as it used to be.

We have organized a Life After School programme for finalists. However, it was not restricred to finalist.

We wowed people with a Spelling Bee competition with a give away prize of fifty thousand naira which has never happened in the history of UI

We consolidated on the wonderful initiative of our Sports Director to organize the second edition of SEAL cup

We also organized the first of it kind workout for FATSSSAites

We organized the first if its kind student sendforth fir our former Dean as he left the office.

We have had a couple of filmshows

We organized training session for FATSSSAites on social media usage and makeover

We also organized a training on Google Digital Training

We as well organized a finalist workshop for finalist project managent

We are currently working on an E-magazine

We are also preparing well for the Dean's cup, FATSSSA week and Dinner

Kay_niran: With all these you've said, to what extent can you say the bulk of FATSSSAites have been carried along?
Faith Omitoyin: To a reasonable large extent

Kay_niran: Considering everything that has happened so far in your administration. Would you say you have not taken for granted the confidence reposed in you by FATSSSAites?
Faith Omitoyin: FATSSSAites trusted the Patriotism agenda and gave us the mandate to lead. This has never been taken for granted even at points when it seemed everything was nosediving, the confidence was further strengthened.

Kay_niran: What should FATSSSAites expect for FATSSSSA week and when should they expect it?
Faith Omitoyin: In due time, FATSSSAites will be communicated
