DIGNITARIES STORM UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN AS OBAFEMI AWOLOWO HALL HOLDS FIRST AWOLOWO LEGACY LECTURE






The Awolowo Legacy Lecture held on Tuesday May 15th at Trenchard hall university of Ibadan. The lecture was organized by the Obafemi Awolowo Foundation for the Obafemi Awolowo Hall University of Ibadan. The lecture attracted the crème de la crème of both the political and academic class of South-West Nigeria. Ambassador Tokunbo Awolowo Dosumu, the executive director of the Awolowo Foundation, Chief (Prof) Adamolekun, Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu, Sen. Iyiola Omisore, Adewale Raji:Chairman of Oodua Investment Company, Chief Dosu Ladipo, Keye Abiona, Niyi Osundare as well as Deans of Faculties and Head of Departments.
The Vice-Chancellor University of Ibadan represented by the DVC academics in his welcome address said among other things that "Obafemi Awolowo Hall belongs to the Awolowo family and we would appreciate interventions to make it condusive for learning".
Dr Olatokunbo Awolowo Dosumu in her address explored the legacies of Chief Obafemi Awolowo and presented Awo to the youths as a role model, one worthy of emulation.
The lectures were presented by Prof Diji Aina, Vice Chancellor Caleb University and Bashorun Dayo Israel.
Prof.Aina while speaking on " Repositioning the Youth for Leadership in Nigeria" said that it is time for the youths to rise up and take Nigeria. He also noted that in the time of Awolowo, Awo approved 27.8% of the budget to Education as against the 6% the government devoted to education in 2016. He noted also that the UNESCO approved that at least 26% of a country's budget should be allotted to education, years after Awo's time.
Bashorun Dayo Israel in his lecture on "The Nigerian Youth and Leadership Challenge" said that our fathers raised us to be timid and to not question authority. He said the youths have to raise themselves and get involved in politics, you're not "too young" he said.
The lecture was preceded by a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor and a visit to Obafemi Awolowo Hall.
