LET GO OF THE PAST

“Femi, get out of my sight, who do think you are? I know your type were the words that came out of the mouth of Moyosore a medical doctor in her early 30s”.

Moyosore is a beautiful lady who grew up in a family of four. She attended Birrell primary school and had her secondary education in Rainbow college, one of the best schools in the heart of Lagos. Although she hailed from an average family, she was gifted intellectually and this made ways for her as she was granted a scholarship by the Lagos state scholarship board to study medicine and surgery in the prestigious university of Ibadan where she outshined most of her colleagues.

Just like most teenagers who hailed from a disciplined family, she was warned by her parents about the demons in trousers (men according to them anyway) and their evil ways. As a result of this, she decided to abstain from anything called relationship. This she was able to achieve until her 4th year in the university. She met Michael, a graduate of Dentistry who came to the university college hospital for his one year compulsory housemanship. Just after a few days of their first meeting in the cafeteria of Alexander Brown Hall, Michael invited her to have lunch with him. At first, she was reluctant to honour his invitation but she was encouraged by friends to go since it was just for lunch.

Day turned into weeks and weeks into month and Moyosore discovered that she was falling in love with Michael who had been proposing relationship to her although she continually decline and told him that she only sees him as a friend. After a year of her friendship with Michael who at that time was already undergoing his national youth service in Lagos, she decided to give him a green light. Their relationship was a bliss up to the period that she discovered that she was pregnant for Michael.

On breaking the news to Michael, he took it the way every intending father would. He was happy, what else could he be looking for, he had a good job, the intending mother will soon graduate from the higher institution with access to enough to support the family. Moyosore was happy with his response because to her. He handled the whole situation maturely even beyond her own expectations.

But what was unknown to Moyosore was that Micheal was only a green snake under the green grass as he had plans to leave the country in search of greener pasture abroad. And he was not ready to allow any child or anything stop him from doing that.
Just a month to the birth of Moyosore’s daughter, Michael disappeared without a trace, leaving Moyosore alone to bear the burden of the child. Since that day, Moyosore decided not to trust any man again as she concluded that all men are the same. And from that day, she rudely turns down any man that dares come her way in search of a better half. And this was why she said to Femi the CEO Femlak construction and her 20th suitor after Michael “Femi, get out of my sight, who do think you are? I know your type”
The truth about relationship is that, it is a foreshadow of the institution called marriage. And like all institutions, it is meant for us to learn in preparation of either a new relationship or marriage itself. What really matters is not our success or failure in relationships but what we do with both the positive or negative experience of our current or previous relationship. It is not a thing to fear or run away from due to the negative reports of many. It is a great tool for success if handled the right way.

And in order for us to reap the good fruits of relationship, we must be willing to not only learn but also unlearn the negative aspect of our previous relationship like the case of moyosore and relearn or look forward to the joy which a new relationship can bring. We must be willing to let go of the past.
