FATSSSA Bye election: New Executives Sworn-in, EDC inaugurated

On the 19th of July, 2024, during the FATSSSA House of Representatives sitting, a by-election was held to fill the vacant executive offices of the faculty.
The sitting commenced with all its proposed agenda items, including the by-election and the inauguration of the Educational Development Committee (EDC).
Of the nine executive offices in FATSSSA, only four were occupied following the election conducted last session. Before the by-election, the offices of General Secretary, Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Social Director, and Sports Director were vacant.
Among the vacant offices, aspirants vying for the posts of Treasurer, Sports Director, Social Director, and General Secretary ran unopposed, except for the office of Financial Secretary, which had two aspirants competing.
Recall, that Mr. Oderinde, who was vying for the post of General Secretary, was disqualified on the day of the by-election due to the belated release of the screening results by IFEC.
The vote results for the by-election are as follows: For the General Secretary's office, Boboye Olujoka emerged with 14 votes, while 3 votes were undecided; Omadara Tolani was elected as Sports Director with 15 votes in favor, while 2 votes were undecided; Okunola Gbekeloluwa, who emerged as Social Director, and Obayemi David, who emerged as Treasurer, were the only aspirants to receive all 17 votes in their favor from the representatives present.
For the contested position of Financial Secretary, Olubiyi Oluwatobiloba emerged victorious with 9 votes, while Toluwase Mercy received 8 votes.
With the by-election concluded the nine executives of FATSSSA are expected to start their responsibilities diligently and efficiently. The new executives are:
Faiz Oyekanmi, President; Nwakwo Ekene, Vice President; Olujoka Pelumi, General Secretary; Opeseitan Elijah, Assistant General Secretary; Adekunle Samuel, PRO; Obayemi Tobi, Treasurer; Olubiyi Tofunmi, Financial Secretary; Okunlola Gbekeloluwa, Social Director; Omodara Tolani, Sports Director.
Following the inauguration of the newly elected executives, the Educational Development Committee was also inaugurated. The members, including Olayinka Mayowa (Geography, 300-level), Adekola Rihanat (Political Science, 300-level), Alade Funmilayo (Psychology, 300-level), and Amos Fortune (Sociology, 300-level), were sworn in by the President. The committee will be headed by the Vice President.
