Ayoolajesu Victoria Ojo On the 26th of July, the annual national BSP Scrabble tournament was hosted at Abayomi Awodiora Hall, 36 Cardoso Street, Ajegunle, Apapa, Lagos, gathering students from the University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Lagos State University, etc. Five students from the University of Ibadan, who are also members of the UI Scrabble Club, in the persons of Awonusi Peter, Onuh Benjamin, Adefemi Hadiz, Ahmed Gbadamosi and Kingsley Enyi participated in the Nigerian Scrabble Federation (NSF) and Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA) rated tournament. The decision aligns with the Federal Government’s declaration of the day as a public holiday, following the passing of the former Nigerian leader on the 13th July. A memo issued by the university’s Registrar, confirmed that regular activities at the institution will resume on Wednesday, July 16. While the campus will remain largely inactive during the holiday, staff engaged in essential services are expected to remain on duty to ensure continuity in critical operations. The university’s action reflects its participation in the national reflection and honouring of a leader who once served both as a military ruler and as a democratically elected president.

Peace Nkenta ‎On Monday, 14th of July, two students, Aduwo Ayodele, a final year student of the History Department, and Gbadegesin Olamide, a final year Master’s student at the Institute of African Studies, received a four-semester suspension. ‎This decision was taken during the Central Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC) sitting held earlier today involving the Vice Chancellor amongst other members of the University management. The reason for the suspension is that both students participated in the peaceful protest that took place during the Erstwhile Students’ Union President (Aweda Bolaji)'s administration. ‎Aduwo Ayodele confirmed this development.
