Redamancy

By Eniola Olaniyi

From the nl. redamantia, from the Classical Latin redamō ("I requite love").

An act of loving the one who loves you. Love returned in full.

The story of the first lovers to ever exist.

Solis and Luna.

Solis and Luna were divine beings to oversee the earth, terram.

Solis burned bright like a thousand flames, brought together like a chasm leading to hades.

Luna felt like an orchid garden in autumn: cool and serene.

Together, they controlled the earth like yin and yang.

Solis and Luna were inseparable, and the tales of their love were whispered among the gods.

There were stories of how sparkles flew in the clouds when the two were together.

The air was charged with electricity as they gazed into each other's eyes.

The goddess, Invidia, couldn't take it anymore.

Her heart burned with hatred and detest, and so, she foiled a plan—a plan to quench their love.

Invidia cursed Luna to fall in love with Mare, the blue ocean beneath them.

Solis had lost his love. She couldn't remember him. In despair, he burnt even brighter and moved far away from everyone around him.

At night, when Luna came around, he disappeared. He couldn't stand to see his lost love.

Luna was cursed with loving Mare, who could not reach her. His tides raised as high as they could, yet Lina only watched in anguish as he barely reached her.

The lovers were cursed for eternity. Solis burned with despair, Luna folded with anguish, and Mare, caught in between, in love with one he couldn't touch.

Redamancy. One these lovers never knew.
