MANIFESTO MATTERS: IFEC RESPONSE TO THE COMPLAINT RAISED BY A FATSSSAITE

At exactly 7:28 a.m. this morning, the Independent Fatsssa Electoral Commission released a memo addressing the public address raised by one of FATSSSA stakeholders, Mr Samson, Sociology president. In his release, he described the situation as a democratic process being marred by procedural irregularity and open disrespect. According to him, he followed the ground rules of first-come, first-served. There was a limited time, which led to constraints in the number of questions that could be accommodated for each aspirant, and only the first five people to raise their hands could ask a question. Mr Samson stated that during the presidential aspirant questioning, he was among the first five but was not given the chance due to the fact that he had asked questions during the presentation of other aspirants. This is to give room for Fatssaites that have not asked any questions. The stakeholder describes this as a bending of the rules to silence him, as some students were given a chance despite having asked questions before.

This concern was raised several times yesterday on various groups, and a number of stakeholders were called out, and a few students also raised their concerns. Mr Samson also raised concerns about negligence as this matter wasn't responded to in time.

In a response to this, the IFEC released a memo this morning to all groups explaining the reason for the time constraints. In the memo, the Committee explained that IFEC remain fully committed to neutrality. The release also explained the circumstances that led to the time constraints. Above all, the Committee express their regret for any inconvenience that might have been caused, while stating that the Committee does not owe anyone a personal apology.

This memo has caused reactions from various individuals on the platform and as well as a Public Release from the NSASA (Nigerian Sociological and Anthropological Students' Association)
