Dean’s Cup Second Round: Political Science Hopes to Turn the Tides as Finals Approach
By Usman Toheeb
The second round of the highly anticipated Dean’s Cup unfolded yesterday at the Old SUB Field, delivering drama, excitement, and fierce competition.
The Department of Political Science secured an automatic 3–0 walkover victory against Geography. Meanwhile, Sociology, who had earlier stunned Political Science in their opening match, locked horns with Psychology, another strong contender who also benefited from a walkover against Geography.
The clash between Sociology and Psychology lived up to expectations. Both teams displayed remarkable energy and tactical discipline in what turned out to be an intense, end-to-end encounter. Despite several close chances, the thrilling game ended in a goalless 0–0 draw, leaving the crowd craving for more.
With that result, the current standings now see Sociology and Psychology level on 4 points each, while Political Science trails closely with 3 points. Geography, yet to feature on the pitch, remains with 0 points.
The final round, scheduled for Monday, October 13, promises to be a decisive showdown. Sociology is already guaranteed a walkover in their next fixture against Geography, which will take them to 7 points and book their place in the final.
All eyes now turn to the crucial tie between Political Science and Psychology. A draw will see Psychology advance to the final alongside Sociology, but for Political Science, nothing short of victory will do. It’s a must-win battle, a fight for redemption, pride, and a ticket to the grand finale.
