The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Ibadan has formally notified three Honourables of disciplinary proceedings following an alleged assault on members of the Students’ Union Executive Council. In a letter sent out on June 2, 2025, the SRC accused Honorable Segun, a representative of Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall Constituency, Honourable Shalom, a representative of Queen Elizabeth II Hall Constituency and Honorable Nice Linus of engaging in an altercation that left the General Secretary of the Union injured.

It was highlighted in the memo, that the three individuals accompanied by others on May, 15, 2025 stormed the Union’s office, confronting the executives which included the President, General Secretary and the P.R.O, over the issue of the proposed Congress. This confrontation which turned physical, led to an assault of the General Secretary. The SRC exclaimed the gravity of the issue particularly noting the involvement of Honourable Segun and Honourable Shalom who are current members of the 12th Assembly which raises significant concerns about misconduct and a blatant disregard for established procedures.

In response to the incident, the SRC has demanded that all three Honourables submit a written statement of defence within 48 hours. The statement is to be addressed to the Disciplinary Committee through its Secretary. The letter cautions that failure to comply will allow the Committee to proceed with its reviews based solely on existing evidence. This action comes after the Students’ Union officially reported the incident to the SRC, which had earlier led to the suspension of the proposed Congress. The Union cited threats to security and the alleged assault as reasons for halting the Congress.
