FATSSSA Press: Hi,
Good Morning.
I'm
Emmanuel Omolayo, a correspondent of FATSSSA PRESS. This is an interview aimed
to discuss your aspirations for the office of Ass. General Secretary .
Kindly introduce yourself.
Mr Emmanuel: Good
morning, I'm Emmanuel Akinbusuyi often referred to as STATESMAN, a
100 level student of the department of political science
FATSSSA Press:
Great, let's proceed with the interview.
Mr Emmanuel: Ok no
problem
FATSSSA Press:
Firstly, what compelled you to aspire to the office of Ass. General Secretary?
Mr Emmanuel: I
will say the act of service to my
immediate environment is a culture that has being built into me while growing
up, throughout my academic experience before the university I've always been
acting in one role or the other coordinating activities excellently and
effectively, upon gaining admission to university of ibadan, I was also able to
serve in different capacities in my department Senate House, and I believe it
will be great to also bring this experiences to fatsssa by serving in the
office of the AGS.
FATSSSA Press: By
this, do you think you have the qualities and strength to match this office of
AGS?
Mr Emmanuel:
Certainly I do, the office of the AGS is a very active office, I had the
opportunity to witness that, I believe I can work in that office effectively
and excellently if elected…
FATSSSA Press:
Okay, how would you describe the key responsibilities of AGS role?
Mr Emmanuel: The
FATSSSA constitution outlines the general secretary as the head of the
secretariat, which implies that The AGS functions as the the head or deputy
head of the secretariat in the absence of the General Secretary... According to
Article 8, section 4, the AGS is in charge of maintaining the secretariat and
it's record, compilation of attendance in executive or general meetings,
assisting the general secretary, and chairing the sanitation committeew, i will
describe the role of the AGS as a vital, Active and important essential for the
the effective functioning of the executive council and association as a whole
FATSSSA Press:
Alright, clearly describe your leadership style and how it aligns with the role
of AGS.
Mr Emmanuel: My
leadership style is guided and defined by the principles of Statesmanship, it
is not just about holding political office; it embodies a deeper commitment to
ethical service, strategic thinking, and ensuring the welfare of the community.
It is a quality that distinguishes effective leaders from mere politicians. As
I mentioned previously the office of the AGS is a active and vital office, all
this qualities is a quality that I believe will allow me to perform effectively
in the office of AGS
FATSSSA Press: You mentioned that you have always been acting in one role or
the other effectively, what are your strategies for managing criticism and how
would you differentiate between constructive and unfair criticism?
Mr Emmanuel: My
strategies to criticism is that I'm Open to criticism but I don't enjoy
criticism, I enjoy critique instead, if we can identify the problems, we should
also be able to identify the solution... And to differentiate between
constructive and unfair criticism... Constructive criticism should be a
critique and unfair criticism should be just negative criticism, I believe I
can manage criticism quite effectively
FATSSSA Press: If you're elected as FATSSSA AGS, how would you approach decision-making when faced with conflicting priorities and limited resources?
Mr Emmanuel: There
is balance and order to all things, I'm an open-minded individual and I will not
be working as a lone wolf in the executive council but rather in synergy with
other members of the executive council and I believe we can sit down and have
an effective discussion to outline our priorities and create a scale of
preference, resources will always be limited and infact be scarce as it is a
fact that human wants is unlimited.... The best thing to do is to manage the
resources we have and work together to seek for more as a council
FATSSSA Press: What do you think are the most pressing challenges facing
FATSSSAites and what measures would you put in place to mitigate them?
Mr Emmanuel: One
of the most pressing challenges I think we are facing as FATSSSAites is clear
communication which is majorly the cause of low turnouts in events and faculty
activities.... I've measures outlined in my manifesto to mitigate them, and
they will be discussed in the manifesto night and press night
FATSSSA Press:
Okay, do you have a plan to support FATSSSAites in improving their academic
performance?
Mr Emmanuel: Of
course I do, I plan to work closely with the vice president to create a
educational help desk to aid FATSSSAites academic activities, it will be avenue
for junior FATSSSAites to seek mentorship and academic advice from senior
FATSSSAites and it will be avenue to Foster interactive relationships among
FATSSSAites
FATSSSA Press: So how would you maintain transparency and accountability if elected
as AGS?
Mr Emmanuel: I
plan to create a e-office of the AGS where all Fatsssaites can join and be
updated promptly about the activities of my office

to provide?
