CREATIVITY IN THE TECHNICAL WORLD OF AI

By Olatoye Temiloluwa

On Friday, February 16th, FATSSSA Press hosted a symposium aimed at exploring the multifaceted dimensions of artificial intelligence (AI) from various perspectives, including journalistic, academic, and engineering viewpoints. At this symposium, guest speakers engaged in discussions that delved into the dual nature of AI, examining its potential benefits and drawbacks across different sectors.

Notably, Dr. Osayomi, a lecturer from the Department of Geography, contributed to the discourse by shedding light on the level of inaccuracy inherent in AI technologies. Dr. Osayomi emphasized the importance of utilizing AI as an assistant rather than solely relying on its capabilities, advocating for a balanced approach that harnesses AI's strengths while recognizing its limitations.

Mr. Tope James Moses, an AI Engineer formerly at Black in Tech (BIT) company in Abuja and currently a co-founder of ATC Africa, emphasized the pivotal role of creativity in the era of AI. He highlighted how AI technologies are increasingly integrated into various industries. Mr. Moses underscored the importance of human creativity and innovation, stating that while AI can perform tasks with precision, it lacks the creative capacity inherent in humans. He discussed the diverse applications of AI across digital technology companies, citing Google's 'Bad' AI (now known as 'Gemini') as his preferred choice due to its versatile information retrieval capabilities compared to more single-minded AI models like ChatGPT.

Additionally, Mr. Moses showcased ATC Africa's innovative approach in the agricultural sector, where they developed sensor technology to replace traditional scarecrows by detecting and deterring animal movements on farms. In closing, he challenged businesses to consider how they leverage AI to enhance their operations and drive business growth. He asked, "As a brand, how are you using AI? How do you apply AI to the benefit of your business?" This thought-provoking question served as a call to action for companies to explore the vast potential of AI in shaping the future of their industries.
