Adesina Aishat, a final year student of the department of Foreign Languages of Obafemi Awolowo University passed away at the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital, Ile - Ife. News gathered reports that late Miss Adesina who was an asthmatic patient was rushed to the University Health Clinic on Thursday, 30th of September, 2021.
It was reported that she was experiencing severe pains following intake of drugs given to her at the Health Clinic for treatment of sore throat she was experiencing. On getting to the Clinic, she was refused referral to Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital as the doctors claimed to be on strike. She was referred to the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital, Ile Ife where she passed away as a result of late response.
Following her death, on Friday 1st of October, 2021 students of the University moved out in numbers staging a protest. They blocked the school gate, Ife/Ede and Ife/Ibadan highways to express displeasure on the loss of their school mate.
Soon after the protest, the authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University ordered the indefinite shutdown of the University and ordered students to vacate halls of residence latest 12 noon on Saturday, 2nd of October, 2021.
It was made known that despite the fact that they understand the grief from the loss of Miss Adesina, continued and uncontrolled protest by the students will not be tolerated.
Meanwhile, swearing in of newly elected Students' Union officials has been put on hold pending when there is a review of the situation.
