RE: WE CAN HAVE A BETTER FEMALE LAVATORY

“in journalism, there has always been a tension between getting it first and getting it right.”

Ellen Goodman

In the early hours of yesterday, 29th day of September, FATSSSA press made a number of publications. One of these titled “we can have a better female lavatory”, has generated great controversies. While the writer of the article is a very young campus journalist who is still in the early stages of her learning, the real responsibility should be borne by the FATSSSA press editors who published the said article with its controversies. Journalism is a delicate, backbreaking as well as critical business; its conduct should be done through patience and strict adherence to the due process. The process of walking in to the faculty management to make enquiries in order to verify the basis for the claims in the article was missed before the publication, and this should not have been so. The opinion/advisory article in question actually failed to take account of the tremendous financial, physical and other efforts the faculty had put in place in these past months towards ensuring a conducive environment for the students, especially on the lavatories.

This inadvertence could only come from a press outfit which is just starting to build, learn and rebuild itself, and FATSSSA press is such. Members of the faculty public are therefore informed that the article in question has been pulled down from the FATSSSA press blog, and its contents cannot be accessed, neither will it be found anywhere again. We apologize having the assurance that with the better understanding we now have in relating with the faculty management, none of our future publications will record such suffering.

Thanks.
