Clash of The Socials 6.0 Showcases Intellectual Prowess and Eloquence Among FATSSSAITES

Students of the faculty of the Social Sciences, gathered for an atmosphere of intellectual engagement, wit, and healthy rivalry as the sixth edition of Clash of the Socials brought together representatives from various departments in a multifaceted contest of oratory, debate and impromptu speaking.


The event featured participants from the Departments of Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, and Geography, with contestants engaging critical social issues through carefully constructed arguments, persuasive speeches, and analytical discourse.


The event, organised by the FATSSSA Literary and Debating Society, officially commenced at 12:59 p.m. after an initial delay. In her welcome address, the President of FATSSSA Literary and Debating Society, Ayotomiwa, appreciated attendees, alumni, executives, judges, and participants while apologising for the late start.


The competition opened with an oratory round on the theme, “Sexualization: A Dual-Faced Affair,” where speakers examined societal perceptions of identity, value, and objectification. Other oratory themes included “Who Bears the Burden of Suicide?”, “Thin Line Between Patriotism and Sedition,” and “The Nigerian Educational System Was Not Made for Us.”


The debate rounds featured Geography against Political Science on the topic, “Sex for Grades: Is it Sustained More by Lecturers or Students’ Complicity?” while Sociology and Psychology debated whether “The Nigerian Education System is Designed to Liberate or Control.” 


Contestants delivered arguments blending humour, analysis, and social commentary, keeping audience engagement high throughout the sessions. The event also featured spoken-word performances, interactive giveaway sessions, and review remarks from alumni and judges. Chief Judge, Yahaya Dorcas, commended contestants’ confidence and delivery while encouraging improvements in pronunciation, creativity, and speech internalisation.


At the end of the debate rounds, Geography defeated Political Science with 65.7 points against 63.5, while Sociology emerged ahead of Psychology with 67.2 points against 64.5


Oriowo Goodluck emerged winner of the oratory competition with 77.7%, while Oyedeji Peter recorded the highest individual debate score with 73.7%.


Following the impromptu speech segment, Sociology emerged overall winner of Clash of the Socials 6.0, with Geography finishing as first runner-up.


The event concluded with the presentation of certificates to judges and participants, drawing the curtain on another edition of The Clash of The Socials' showcase.
