by Emmanuel Akinwale
The Call of Duty for Public Speakers resumed on December 3rd, 2024, at the NFLT (New Faculty Lecture Theatre), as 8 different faculties engaged in a contest of acumen in the second round of the inter-faculty debate of the ongoing edition of the Jaw War.
The second round which would see victors progress to the next round of the competition, saw the faculties square up to each other with the topics below:
NURSING vs. ARTS
Topic: Voting should be mandated for citizens in democratic countries.
RNR VS LAW
Topic: Is Federalism the best governance structure
AGRICULTURE VS PUBLIC HEALTH
Topic: Is it in the best interest of students for the Federal government of Nigeria to implement a minimum age of 18 for admission into Universities in Nigeria
TECHNOLOGY VS SOCIAL SCIENCE
Topic: Is school fee increment a necessary evil to ensure the long-term sustainability of Nigeria’s education.
Recall, that as reported by PANS Press, the Faculty of Pharmacy, expected to face the Faculty of Vet. Medicine withdrew from the competition at 5 pm, yesterday. The issue arose from a misunderstanding regarding the stance allocation for the second round of the competition as it was argued from the perspective of Pharmacy, that the Jaw War rule stipulating that teams argue opposing positions in the second round against their stance in the First Round, was contravened by Vet. Medicine. Owing to Pharmacy's withdrawal, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, automatically qualified for the next round of the competition.
Faculty of the Social Sciences, represented by Bobola James who is also the Faculty L and D President and Zainab Yusuff, a 300-level student of the Department of Sociology, continues her stellar performance in the competition as they pummeled the Faculty of Technology 76% to 64%
Below are the results:
ARTS VS NURSING
76.5%. 75.6%
LAW. VS RNR
66%. 56%
TECHNOLOGY VS SOCIAL SCIENCE
64%. 76%
AGRICULTURE VS PUBLIC HEALTH
64.8% 64%
Sakeenah Kareem from the Faculty of Arts, with an 85% score, emerged as the best speaker, while the Faculty of Nursing qualified as the best loser.
