IT'S FATSSSA ELECTIONS O'CLOCK!! MEET MR. MR OMONIYI ASHCROFT ASPIRANT FOR THE OFFICE OF SOCIAL DIRECTOR

By Grace Omolola Odukoya

Press: Good evening, Mr Ashcroft. I am Grace from FATSSSA Press and we would like to ask you a few questions about your declared ambition in the forthcoming FATSSSA Elections. Please introduce yourself

Ashcroft Omoniyi: My name is Ashcroft Omoniyi Dominion and I am vying for the office of the Social Director. I am a 300 level student of Psychology.

Press: What would you describe as your philosophy or ideology?

Ashcroft Omoniyi: Well…if I am right about the question, I do not really live on already established philosophies however I believe that success is when one’s signature becomes an autograph. That is a driving force for me to do better so I can get to that stage. Avoid competition and become a better version of myself.

Press: Kindly enlighten us on the posts you have held in the past and the committees you have worked with.

Ashcroft Omoniyi: I have served as the PRO of my departmental association, NAPPS, UI. I currently serve as the Social Director of NAPPS, UI. I have served in several committees in the department, faculty and even at the Student Union level, both PR and Social committees. I was a member of the committee for the first day of the Student’s Union Week, which was the rally/carnival.

Press: Why did you decide to run for the Office of the Social Director? What are your aspirations and motivations?

Ashcroft Omoniyi: Running for the position of the Social Director had been an aspiration right from 100 level. I was fortunate to meet a good administration which inspired me. I worked closely with the then Social Director and learned a lot. I had taken my time to observe and map out things which have led to this day.

Press: What do you have to offer to the association?:

Ashcroft Omoniyi: Asides the constitutional duties, I would bring in more innovations and  continue existing innovations to project the faculty to the entire school and even Ibadan.

Press: Kindly mention one of such innovations.

Ascroft Omoniyi: One of the innovative is FATSSSA;S GOT TALENT, a virtual talent hunt which was started by me when I was Mr FATSSSA. I hope to make it a physical avenue for talents to be nurtured and showcased in our faculty.

Press: How does it feel being without opposition, till this moment at least? What do you believe are the odds of winning?

Ashcroft Omoniyi: In all honesty, I have been getting this question quite regularly but I do not have any feeling towards it. I feel it just happened. Also, about my odds of winning, I cannot specifically point that out but I hope for the best. Since I am going un-oppposed, I hope to really get the support and acceptance of FATSSSAITES.

Press: How do you intend to solve low turnouts of FATSSSAITES  to events?

Ashcroft Omoniyi: Based on my experience, what is important is how the event is presented. I hope to work with a team of vibrant FATSSSAITES to get more FATSSSAITES to attend events and boost enthusiasm towards events.

Press: What is your plan towards financing events or would you be relying solely on the purse of the Association?

Ashcroft Omoniyi: I do not intend to rely solely on the association’s purse. I have been making efforts to get sponsorships and work with people who could help with funding or connections  . I will be working with the elected PRO to improve publicity. With that, we will be able to conquer the limitation of low turnup.

Press: Rate the current administration. What do you hope to correct, do better or emulate?

Ashcroft Omoniyi: To be honest, while I am bad with rating people or performances, they have done a commendable job, especially with various limitations they faced. It is not an easy job but they have done well. I would not call it correcting, rather I will add more initiatives to make FATSSSA better. I would like to commend them for the FATSSSA Week. It was amazing as people from even the social and entrepreneurial sector were acknowledged.

Press: What do you love about FATSSSA and being a FATSSSAITE

Ashcroft Omoniyi: There is so much to love about FATSSSA. There is an abundance of human resources. There is nothing missing here, from scholars in academia, social media enthusiasts, sports… We supersede in almost every sector which is one of the greatest accolade any faculty can brag of in this school. We are just four departments in FATSSSA yet the cohesion is strong. We turn up for each other. The support is immense. Even in external events where FATSSSAITES are involved, other members are always there to cheer them on.

Press: Say a word of advice to members of the association

Ashcroft Omoniyi: I do not have much to say, except that we should keep the energy, support and fire up. We can only hope to do better and keep showing others that we are the only faculty with the article THE, which is The Faculty of THE Social Sciences.

Press: This brings the interview to a close. Thank you so much for your time, Mr Ashcroft. Have a nice evening.
