EDITORIAL: Redefining Students Leadership in Nigerian Universities

Image
by Emmanuel Akinwale Student Leadership in Nigeria serves as a means for students from various higher education institutions to voice their opinions. These leadership positions include those within the Student Union Government (SUG), College or Faculty Organizations, along with departmental groups across numerous universities, polytechnic institutes, teacher training colleges, and other higher education institutions in Nigeria.  The main goal of student leadership is to improve well-being and safeguard the interests of its members. In the past, student organizations and unions commanded significant respect from those in authority and academic administrations. This happened because their leaders maintained positive beliefs and considered their students' needs.  It has been noted that current student leadership greatly differs from that which existed many years ago. SATIRE: OGA AT THE TOP

Image
by John Bukunmi   They were here last week, sheltered their butchered silence underneath their sleeve, they would roll their flowing agbada like the French omelette, from afar, we could hear them mumbling of their fantasy future. They were here last week, forgetting that, the night can be so sad to bring stars. Day can be grumpy to give the lonely sun it's utterances..... we would listened to their parodies with our paradoxical soul. They were here last week. "Officer"........ Welcome......  How is oga at the top? Their consuming laughter would spread like lines with lies......... Oga is fine they whispered,  when they knew we are unschooled in Oga's chameleon talent. Spray money in the dawn, Slay bullets in the dusk. They were here last week. Greased our hands and fed our minds, telling us to hold firm our brooms and despise our umbrellas.  Our unwary hearts was wounded with hollow promises.
