 Tick of Truth

Image
By Ojo Victoria Ayoolajesu You claim the press has beef to pick, But hear us out, the clock goes tick. We listen close, we heed your call, Yet you insist we hear not at all. You say you know them—those who run, Yet flaws? You mention entirely none. No one’s perfect, that we see, So tell me now—how well do we? Press nights come, should we embrace? Or smile and soften every case? The seat they seek has thorns and pain, Not just the roses they hope to gain. Our words are thorns, sharp yet wise, Our questions? Roses in disguise. You should have answers—stand up tall, Not just bask in praises’ call. We worry for you, while you stand blind, Cheering your friends, their faults denied. You say we strike with bias grand, But do you listen, or just withstand? Before you claim we mean attack, Reflect, and take a moment back. People judge by what they’d do— So tell me now, does this fit you?

Image
By Peace Nkenta    The COHC on the 30th of March 2025 wrote to the UI-SRC proposing an increment in Basic Dues across Halls of Residence from N3000 to N5000. The Hall Chairpersons asserted that the reason for the proposition of an increment was as a result of the insufficiency of the current fee to meet essential expenses such as security, sanitation, infrastructure, hall services which have gained rising costs overtime and inadequately made it impossible to meet the general welfare of the student populace.    According to the notification released and signed by the President of the COHC, Anifowose Nofisat and the General Secretary, Adenekan Adeifeoluwa. The COHC aims to engage the SRC and explain their rationale as well as highlight reasons why their proposal should be agreed to.  However, this proposal is emerging at a period where it's uncalled for as many students who face harsh living conditions caused by the ongoing economic hardships may be unabl...

Image
Peace Nkenta  On the 28th of March 2025, Nice Linus Adaoma, a 300 level student of the Faculty of Law dispatched the virtual copy of a letter to the 12th Assembly of the Students’ Representative Council demanding for her temporary restitution as a member and majority leader elect of the Obafemi Awolowo Hall constituency. This event followed after the University annulled her election into office. This was because of the internal memorandum highlighting the alleged case she had with the Students’ Disciplinary Committee where she fought against the fee hike introduced in the last session alongside two others. Nice Linus Adaoma in her words “ I find it hypocritical that a University that prides itself on respect of ideals of social justice and equal chance as seen in it's anthem would stoop so low to suppress dissent. Regardless, the only response to oppression and intimidation is resistance. The only way to promote fair hearing is to stand on a pedestal and voice out your opini...
