  By Emmanuel Akinwale The Faculty of the Social Sciences has today, 8th October released a memorandum announcing the suspension of all academic and administrative activities within the f aculty , following the untimely passing of Professor Ifeanyi Onyeonoru , a respected lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Head of the Employment Relations and Human Resource Management Unit.   The devastating news confirmed by FATSSSA Press correspondent stated that Professor Ifeanyi Onyeonoru passed away in the early hours of October 7, 2024, at Jaja Clinic during a brief illnes. The esteemable Professor is said to have contributed significantly to the academic repository of the Faculty and most importantly, his Department with his repertoire of knowledge. Today, a draw was held, pairing faculties and halls of residence against each other. The Faculty of Social Sciences, which finished as the first runner-up in the 2022/23 edition of Jaw War, is set to begin its campaign on November 28th, facing off against the Faculty of Science. Speaking with FATSSSA Press correspondent, Bobola James, President of the Faculty of Social Sciences' Literary and Debating (L&D) Society, expressed confidence in their preparations. He highlighted that their training sessions have laid a solid foundation for this year’s competition, though he acknowledged the need to elevate their efforts to secure victory. FATSSSA Calls For Help Amidst Looming School Fees Deadline

    By, Olatoye Temiloluwa       The fast approaching deadline in UI for the payment of School fees has led the Faculty of the Social Sciences Students Association issue out a release on th e 16 th of September seeking the support of the public on behalf of the students in the Faculty who have been unable to pay their school fees .        This publication a nd other similar mediums of soliciting for funds from the public has been circulating in the University of Ibadan following the declaration made by UI management on the 30 th of august whereby all student were mandated to pay their school fees by Friday, 21st of this mon th .     In the information publicized by FATSSSA, the Association is urging the public to “support an indigent student today and help a FATSS AITE continue her education” . TILL WE WIN: GOVERNING COUNCIL'S RELEASE SPARKS PROTEST

  By Emmanuel Akinwale  The University of Ibadan Students' Union (UISU), in the early hours of August 30th, issued a 7-point resolution in response to the Governing Council's decision that the deadline for school fees payment and course registration is set for Wednesday, September 4th, 2024. The UISU's resolution reads as follows: We reject the decision made by the Governing Council. There will be a total boycott of classes until our demands are met. The students demand a reversal of the school fees increment. The students demand that the school fees portal be shut down within 24 hours until our demands are met. The protest that began on August 29th will continue until our demands are fulfilled. Students are encouraged to make full use of social media, utilizing the hashtags #UIFEESMUSTFALL and #SAVEUITES. The Poor State of FATSSSA Toilets: Is the Sanitation Committee Doing Enough?

By Aanuoluwapo Akande   Most students visit the SLT building primarily for lectures, but they are often greeted by the unpleasant smell of the toilets.   While one FATSSSITE mentioned that the odor doesn’t necessarily originate from the toilets but from the faculty’s soakaway , the question remains: What exactly causes the smell, and why are the toilets in such poor condition?   Firstly, most interviewed FATSSSITES agree that the cleaners do their best; however, the primary issue is the lack of water. With sufficient water, it would be easier to flush and clean the toilets after use.   Additionally, one of the girls' toilets has a damaged door, leaving users exposed. As a result, many girls pre fer to use the remaining toilet, which offers more privacy.   According to a FATSSSITE, the toilets were not in such bad condition last session, attributing this to a more active sanitation committee.   This leads to an important question: Are the toilets in poor co...
