HAVE FUN, BUT SET YOUR PRIORITY RIGHT! By Eniola Fase PSYCHOLOGY, 100L Being in the sixth month of their first session at the University of Ibadan, a lot of freshers already carry different opinions on the University lifestyle. During the first few weeks as a fresher, it's no news that the majority of these freshers put a lot of energy into their academics. They dedicated their time to facing their studies. I'm actually writing based on experience. During my first few weeks in school, the only thing I and my classmates thought of was becoming a dedicated student. In fact, we went to the extent of reading old materials before our lectures even started. I'm pretty sure this was also the case for a lot of freshers in various departments. They engaged in tutorials, and study groups. Some even attended up to two different study groups, including tutorials. Honestly, this didn't last for too long especially after we resumed physical classes. Now, freshers have relented, esp...

Image
by Emmanuel Ajiboye     GEOGRAPHY 300L The Executives of the Faculty of The Social Sciences Students Association has scheduled a picnic for students of the Faculty and beyond. The picnic, tagged “AMAPIANO” holds today the 21st day of August 2021, and is supposed to kick off by 2pm at the Botanical Garden, University of Ibadan. According to the President of the Association, Mr Josiah Obong Josiah, “Amapiano is meant for the students of the Faculty to relax, have fun among themselves and get entertained especially after the concerted stress of the recently concluded examinations snowballing into a new semester without any breaks in-between”. Amapiano will host not only FATSSSAites, but tickets have been extended to students of the other faculties at a fee. While FATSSSAites who have paid their dues will have automatic tickets for the event, non-FATSSSAITES will have to get their ticket for a fee of N500.  The event is slated to hold through four hours, from 2pm till ab...

AS IT WENT AT THE FACULTY LEADERS’ MEETING: A DETAILED REPORT

Image
by Emmanuel Ajiboye He  reported how he inquired in the meeting why the University had provided hand-washing equipment and sanitizers in the less fifty percent-filled Halls of residence, while the environs of the Faculties were left to themselves, even though they are the host of hundred percent of the students for at least ten hours of each day.     It became an unusual Friday, on the 11th day of June, from about 11:30am in the Faculty of The Social Sciences. The hours involved were shared among two major events, one graduating immediately into the next. Before the Faculty Leaders’ meeting began at five minutes after twelve in the afternoon, the Faculty management led by the Dean of the Faculty herself, Professor Catherine Chovwen, visited the new Secretariat of the Faculty’s Students Association (FATSSSA) in order to see, acknowledge, inspect and join in commissioning the learning aids purchased by the FATSSSA leadership. Guarding the delegation was the FATSSSA Pre...

A SPECIAL NOTICE TO ALL FATSSSAITES

It has become urgent to address all students in the Faculty of The Social Sciences on the pressing concern of our hygiene. The environment which we use for lectures, relaxation and associated events should not be an eyesore to passersby. There are endless benefits to keeping a healthy, clean and enviable environment, as the hazards associated with coexisting amidst a heap of decay are terrifying. The attention of the Faculty management has been drawn to the unenviable manners in which many fatsssaites use the facilities in the faculty, especially in-between and after each day's classes.  Workers who help in cleaning up these facilities are as old, maybe older than many of our parents. They are not employed as slaves neither should their labour be demeaned to such.   These workers clean up our lecture-rooms only to be refilled and piled with dirt again,  even after just a single class.  Those who engage in keeping the lecture-rooms littered have made it a habit....

"Lecturers have been advised to set more friendly questions to students in the coming exams, due to the nature of the semester, while some (100Level) exams will be written in CBT mode"---Dean of The Faculty

Image
"Some 100L exams will be in CBT mode, while lecturers have been advised to set more accessible questions due to the peculiar nature of the semester"  LLT will be opened after next week classes for students to read at day time, but not for overnight uses" Yesterday at the Faculty Students Leaders' meeting with the management of The Faculty, the (still) new Dean of the Faculty Prof (Mrs) Katherine Chovwen said that lecturers were pleaded to set more friendly and accessible questions in the forthcoming exams.   But she immediately warned that this is not an indulgence for students not to take their studies to heart. She stressed that lecturers have only been thus advised, not mandated. In his own remarks, the Subdean of the Faculty Dr O S Lafenwa confirmed that some 100Level courses will be written in CBT form. The Dean also conceded to the association President's request for the Large Lecture Theatre to be opened and available for readings, but only at day time a...

DOs AND DON'Ts OF ONLINE ASSESSMENT.

What to know about online assessment. Tension builds in the minds of students as Psychology department, 300 level holds their first quiz. A day before, a trial quiz was held which was more like a training for the students in preparation for the actual quiz the following day. The date and time was set, instructions were given, questions had been set and the clock seemed to tick slowly this time around.  At the appointed time, the link to the test page dropped. It opened to display 35 OBJ questions and 20 minutes later, it was all over. In another 20 minutes, the results dropped in students respective mails. More tension as those that submitted after the set submission time could not find their scores. PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN DURING AN ONLINE TEST. (1) Keep to time : The test will hold from 4:40 - 5:00pm says more than "the duration of the test is 20 minutes". Take note. (2) Make sure you read  through the instructions : This is equally important because in trying to skip ...

FEMINISM AND SUBMISSION IN MARRIAGE.

Can a feminist be submissive to her husband? Many people don't understand the meaning of feminism ..well that's because many ladies have abused the idea behind feminism. Also many people don't understand submission. They think submission is when your husband asks you to wash plates and you do so. No! That's wrong. The idea behind feminism is that women have a voice too in the society, they deserve to be pampered, cared for, and not treated like animals like men used to treat women those days. Does that mean I have said women are equal to men? No! Women can never be equal to men because the bible says the man is the head, so we can't have two heads in a house, neither can we have two drivers in a car. But because women are not equal to men doesn't mean they deserve to be treated anyhow. Instead as a driver (the head), you have to listen to your front seat passager (a woman) because she can give you good directions, tell what is ahead of you and so on. Feminism i...
