Being
in the sixth month of their first session at the University of Ibadan, a lot of
freshers already carry different opinions on the University lifestyle. During
the first few weeks as a fresher, it's no news that the majority of these
freshers put a lot of energy into their academics. They dedicated their time to
facing their studies. I'm actually writing based on experience. During my first
few weeks in school, the only thing I and my classmates thought of was becoming
a dedicated student. In fact, we went to the extent of reading old materials
before our lectures even started.
I'm
pretty sure this was also the case for a lot of freshers in various
departments. They engaged in tutorials, and study groups. Some even attended up
to two different study groups, including tutorials. Honestly, this didn't last
for too long especially after we resumed physical classes. Now, freshers have
relented, especially with many social activities going on in the faculty. To be
candid, this is not a smart idea at all. Although it is said that all work
without play makes Jack a dull boy. However, it is also said that whoever fails
to plan, plans to fail.
It's
very much alright to have fun and add some spices to your life to make
university life fun-filled. I mean it's necessary to have fun but should that
be a priority? No.
While
having fun, it's important to be reminded that your old reading habit should be
maintained. Reading way before exam makes things much easier when it's time for
exams. This advice is not only for freshers but also stale students. However, I
believe since freshers are new to the system, they are the best audience for
this article. Building a good foundation for your GPA is no joke, and it's best
to be aware that you will need to sacrifice a lot of time with your head buried
in your books to build this strong foundation. Ignorance is no excuse for
failure.
In
summary, it's absolutely alright to have fun, especially while you are in your
youth. Spend time with friends, socialize, and take good care of yourself but
while you are doing all these, let’s not relent in creating a good foundation for
our academics.
