Sports: UI Inter-Faculty Relays, Faculty of Agric Tops 4x400 Chart

University of Ibadan's Awo Stadium came alive today, 15th of August, 2024 as the UI track and field team heated the competition on day two of the UI Inter-faculty Relay tournaments, with “13 faculty” teams.
The previous round of Inter-faculty Relay which took place on the 8th of August among 13 faculties in the University concluded with the Male teams from the faculty of BAMSSA, Tech, Social Sciences, Economics and Agric qualifying as the top 5 to be representatives of the University of Ibadan in the 4x100 male tournament in the southwest games.
The female team had the top 5 contenders from the Faculty of Economics, RNR, Agric, Education and Arts who would simultaneously be representing the University of Ibadan 4x100 female tournament in the upcoming Southwest tournaments.
The tournament commenced at 5:05 pm with a 4x400 mixed ( male and female).
For the first heat between the Faculty of Agric, Education, science, and RNR. The faculty of Education lost while the other three faculty teams proceeded to the final competition.
The second heat saw a contest between the Faculty of Law, vet medicine, Arts and Pharmacy. The absence of the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Arts led to an automatic qualification to the finals for the other two faculties.
For the third heat between BAMSSA, Nursing, and Tech. Nursing was absent and this led to the automatic qualification to the finals of the other two teams.
For the fourth heat between the Faculty of the Social Sciences, Economics, and Clinical Sciences, only the Faculty of Economics was in attendance, so they qualified for the finals alone.
For the showdown, the 8 standing faculties competed and the competing teams were from; the Faculty of Law, Vet Medicine, BAMSSA, Science, RNR, Agric, Economics, and Tech.
At the end of the day, the teams that qualified to represent the University of Ibadan in the 4x400 mixed ( male and female) tournament in the Southwest games are:
1st: Faculty of Agric
2nd: Faculty of Economics
3rd: Faculty of RNR
4th: Faculty of Tech
5th: Faculty of Science
Coach Ajijola, the Track and Field Team Coach of the University of Ibadan stated that next week’s competition on the 22nd of August will be 4x4 male and 4x4 female among the 13 faculties in the University of Ibadan.
